Default Another Oil Change?

Hi guys.

I just came back from my 800km or 500 mile oil change for the dry sump. My dealer, a respected corvette dealer, put a sticker on the window saying to come back in six months or 5000 miles for my next service.

The manual states 1 year or 7500 miles for the next one. I wanted to see if I'm missing something before I call them. Thx

I just follow the oil life monitor. It's up to you though, you can change it whenever you want.

Dealers put whatever they want on those stickers. Go by your OLM % or one year. Whichever comes first.

Thx. Exactly what I thought. I am going to call them. That's not right. For folks not as attuned to this stuff as us, they are ripping people off saying you need an oil change every six months.

That's just dealership protocol, it's not personal! Bet they put that sticker on all cars, no need to call them...why?
Change according to OLM or your manual.

Correct. It's not like they are going to force you to bring your car in. With the original free maintenance program of 4 oil changes in the first two years, 6 months is the typical time period. My car is over two years old now, and I never collected on one of the free oil changes.

Alright fair enough. I'll crack a beer instead. I wasn't taking it personal. But how many Chevy cruze owners follow that ridiculous recommendation for no reason.

Don't bother. They'll ignore you anyway.

Not respected by many if they are putting a sticker on your window.

no need to get all hacked off! It's normal marketing. Some will do it. The dealer makes more money. Just follow your oil management system.

C7 OLM uses time since last oil change (OLM reset) as one of its parameters. It will read 0% oil life at 1 year regardless of how much/how little or what kind of driving is done.

Even if you don't drive it at all, the OLM will tell you to change it in a year. The C7 OLM has a time element baked into the software, so there is not a whichever comes first.

Why? You rather pay for them?

Is the oil life monitor an accurate reading and like checks the oil or it just goes down by miles/km ?

It all depends on how you drive your car. Your Vette will let you know when the oil needs to be changed.

I followed the OLM on my 2015 and got 3 free oil changes with the last one at 23,000 miles. I have a base model.

I've got just over 2500 miles on my Z-51. I was thinking it was time to take it in and get the oil changed even though the sticker says 5500.

I'm a spirited driver, and no I don't mind paying for the extra oil changes.
I figure it's cheap insurance to get the rest of those little bits and pieces left over from break-in that the first oil change missed.

With new vehicles I've always done a 1000 mile oil change and the next at 3000 miles. After that I start going to 5000 between changes.

Some may call it overkill, but I have never had any internal engine problems with any of my 40 or so service vehicles over the past 35 years. And those usually go between 150 and 200,000 miles before their traded off.
