Painted my wheels and an intro
Hi C7ers
I recently picked up this 14 3lt z51. I had a 10 GS and loved it but made the mistake of test driving a C7. IMO, this car is better in just about every way except for looks. I like the lines of the C6 better, but the overall package of the C7 won me over. Anyway, I decided to paint my stock wheels a dark metallic grey. Here are a few pics of the process. It was pretty fun and I think it makes my car look better. See what you think.
The center caps match almost perfect which was a happy accident. Im really pleased with the results.

Congrats, that's a sharp looking ride! Good job on the wheels, it's subtle but I like it!

Amazing how good they look in that color. 10X better than silver.

Looks good. I hope the rattle can paint withstands the harsh environment wheels are subjected to. The factory silver paint seems to be extremely durable. After more than six thousand miles my silver wheels are blemish free.

Yes. I do. Heres why. The C7 is very angular, lots of sharp creases and hard lines. The wide body C6 is a really great curvy shape. I like every angle of the C6. The C7 is growing on me, but there are some angles of it I dont like. I bought one, so that should tell you a lot about the overall package of the car. You have to change out the grille or blacken the chrome on the front of it so it doesnt look like the car has braces, which I see you have done. The tail lights...oof. I dont want to start in on that. If I could drop the C6 Z shell onto the C7 frame, that'd probably be the last car i would own. And I used high temp wheel paint. I did three coats and finished it with three more of matte clear. I also did this to the wheels on my camaro and it held up well. If it doesnt, I just spend a few bucks and do it again.

It looks great. Another option (not better... just another option some might be interested in) is to use plasti-dip. They have a metallic "Anthracite Gray" that looks very similar to your awesome looking wheels. Nice thing about the plasti-dip is you can peel it off if you want to go back to original or try another color.

Mine were beat to crap after 8K and I repainted them with the most durable paint I could find. Not one mark after 2K miles.

Looks great!
Couple of questions. What did you do to prep the original finish?
What tape did you use (any trouble with it not sticking to the tires?
Thx

Looks good and I applaud your use of the paint vs plasty dip. Three coats of clear on top of base color is gonna look a lot different than plastidip. I've done both and there's no comparison the paint on C7 wheels isn't any better than any other paint and chips. No matter what is said above. For many It would be great if we could bake the paint on, after you're finished because it would make it a lot harder. The Mack daddy of paint to use on wheels is Dupont Imron. Specially formulated to be a two-part paint used for truck rims that has been used by show painters for years. The stuff is amazing
