I went to check rear diff oil on my nonZ. Dumb a$$ me pulled the drain plug my mistake and lost about a OT or so of lube before I could get the plug back in. Looks like the rear takes about 2.9 qt of dexron LS. Is the bleed method only for the Z51? Or can I go to the dealer and buy the oil and just top it back off? I will also get a OT pump to make it easy.
Just lift the car, make sure it's level, and add oil into the fill plug until is juuuuuust starts to come out. Stop there.
I will add though, if you're under there adding oil, it isn't too much more money or time to just do a complete drain and fill. Even though GM says it's good for 50k miles (or whatever, not looking at the manual currently, I just know its a long time) it doesn't hurt to get the initial fill out of there, Z51 option or not. There are a few photos out there from people who've done it and the factory oil looks quite, um, "metallic" shall we say. Probably doesn't hurt to leave it in there, but it also doesn't hurt to put brand new fluid in and have some peace of mind.
