Default What is Carbon Flash?

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, a search turned up nothing. New to the C7 side as I only recently moved up from a C6 Grand Sport. As to this "carbon flash", My C7 is a base model 2LT and all black. Body, interior and wheels. However, all the scoops, grill, hood vent, etc. are a metallic black, is that carbon flash? At times the metallic parts almost look like a very dark metallic blue. Thanks for any help and, please, not too many flames, I'm old.

Yes, it's just the name of a color GM's marketing people created.

Thanks Rooster. I was somewhat confused because I kept thinking of carbon fiber and this was a metallic finish. I like it, just wasn't sure what it was. Love the car too.

Laguna blue with carbon flash stingray emblem and mirrors shown in picture.

Hope this helps answering your question. Naturally with a black car, this isn't needed.

Thanks Mr. Goat. Sorry, I call myself "the Old Fart" so finding another "old guy" is rewarding. Love that blue but, when you buy in the middle of May, you take what they have and try to be happy. I could have gone red but that's just a ticket waiting to be written and it was a 3LT and I wanted the 2LT package. Not the biggest fan of the black wheels but with the red calipers I'm getting comfortable with the overall stealth look I now have.

Thanks again,
Scott

As others have already mentioned it is just the name of the color paint that our vents are painted standard. I really love the way they contrast on many colors and the primary reason I went with the black badges, mirrors and rear spoiler.

I also painted the front splitter (GM splitter) Carbon Flash, clear coated and polished to match the mirrors/spoiler/vents and really loved the way it turned out.

Richelu, Sharp car. Your skills are much better than mine. No paint will be applied by these old hands. You must receive many thumbs up as you motor down the highways and byways.

Scott, simply-it's black metallic! I think the boys at GM put the word "Carbon" in there to help get us confused with Carbon Fiber.

Thanks ....
I get lots of looks here in the heart of Bulldog country, but the car really goes over well in Gainesville, FL.

Nice! Did you remove the splitter to paint it? If so how difficult is it to remove and replace? Thanks.

Actually, I ordered the splitter from a GM dealer as the carbon fiber splitter/side skirts"Agressive spoiler" that I originally wanted on the car were on constraint (see my signiture for CFZ option) and I eventually found out that they would not be made available for the 2015s.

This splitter is similar to the base splitter that comes on the Z06 (not the Level 2/3 aero with the winglets on the end) and was really inexpensive. So much so that I see it as additional protection for the nose when hitting those damn entrances that have a bad transition and I get a little rub (so far, the actual nose is perfect with a couple scrapes on the bottom side of the splitter).

All this being said, I painted the splitter when I received it UPS and it was very easy to install (only half a dozen screws on the underside, but there were also a couple screws that did require drilling near the very tip for a more solid attachment).

The important steps are using a good automotive plastic bonding primer (I initially used some plastic primer I had but that eventually peeled prompting me to repaint).
One painted and clear coated, I got the polishing compound out to polish to a very high gloss to match the factory painted mirrors, vents and spoiler. It did take several hours, but the effort was well worth it as it is high gloss, looks factory and has proven very durable.

Carbon Flash is a GM name of a certain black SHADE of paint that has metallic imbedded in the paint. The shade black is slightly lighter then a black, just slightly more gray.

NOTHING to do with Carbon Fiber, this is a material. Carbon was chosen because it has slight gray qualities not a pitch black. Think of the lead in a pencil, not black but is slightly lighter. FLASH part are the metallic specks in the paint.
