WRECKED 2014 Stingray Z51 3LT - Let the rebuild being...
So.. I wrecked my corvette in the rain a few weeks ago. Hydroplaned in the extreme rain that hit NC a few weeks ago! Anyhow, they totaled it out and I bought it back from insurance and I plan to fix and repaint the while car. I will posting pics of my progress as I think this would be interesting to other besides me!
By the way is looks like it just cosmetic damage. I will have to replace that front wheel housing assembly on the front passenger side where it broke some brackets off. In last pic you will see what I am talking about, has anyone replaced this before?

Glad to hear you are OK. Now would be a great time to contact Weapon X for a wide body kit. If you have to redo the whole body might as well do something radical

Has anyone replaced this before or can guide me on how to do it. I have worked with cars, and used to make custom fiberglass subwoofer boxes a long time ago so my body work knowledge is up to date but replacing this looks like its glued in...

I am however selling the wheels and tires (Back tires need to be replaced maybe). The rims are a little scratched up from the clay mud caking up on them during the wreck, my body shop man I'm good friends said it can me sanded and re clear coated.. What is a good price they go for as is?

Really glad that you survived the incident without too much personal damage. Very sorry about the car, must be heart wrenching.
I do have a question about the process. You bought it back from the insurance company, and once you have successfully rebuilt it, and you will, are there any issues in getting it insured again? Would your insurance company cover they car and how would they determine a value on it?
Best of luck, lots of work.

I was thinking the same thing.
I also second that I am glad YOU are ok... I think this will turn into a good story for you and this car.

Why not take the insurance money to get a new car... There is a lot of good parts you can sell off. You can start by giving me the red dash parts Glad your OK! Were you driving in Weather mode?

So should I part it out or rebuild it? The body man came over tonight and said all of its cosmetic and is a walk in the park for him lol. Car is worth about 52k is what insurance said and they offered to pay my loan off which I owe way less. I negotiated the buy back price down to 16k and they paid the difference to my car loan place. I priced 5k in parts and the body shop man said 4k to fix the damages panels and paint the car. So basically I will just have to pull 10k out of pocket and the car will have a nice paint job on it and a car that insurance will again even with a salvage title as long as I document all the repairs and use factory parts. What you think?

Watch the How's It Made special for the Corvette. Will give you an idea of how it goes together.

That's a reasonable buy back on that car you did well at 16k. In NY on a total the insurance co owes you full retail value (52k) plus sales tax .08%. I will assume most states are similar. It should never have anything to do with what you owe.
As a repairer that has rebuilt many vette's although no new owns yet. If like the old ones that inner panel is simply glued on. Check with I-CAR.com for proper repair procedures. Good luck and like others said now is the time to mod it!
