I have a 2015 A8 with 30K miles. That's exactly what my car is doing. To hear the whine noise you have to find a real smooth road surface because on other surfaces the tire noise is too loud to hear the whine. Had the corvette tech ride with me and he said that I need a new differential and one has been ordered. Looks like the rear diff problem has been around for sometime.
mine will make noise anytime i accelerate slightly, i have an arbitration hearing coming up in the next week or so. i want them to buy back. To replace the diff. they said the whole back of the car has to be dismantled, the rear fascia, exhaust system, suspension, inside the hatchback, everything under the rear of the car. i don't really want the car after that molestation.

You got a different story than I did. I was talking to one of the tech's a couple of weeks ago and he said it was fairly simple and they didn't need to take any panels off. The car was on the lift and he just pointed up and said it comes out really easy from below. This was on a base A8 with the normal differential (not eDSL).
I am taking mine in on Friday to hopefully get them to agree that the noise is from a bad differential.
My dealer tells me the noise is normal for a Corvette. At this point I'm going to live with it. The rear half of my car has already been disassembled once for a fuel leak and torque converter replacement. Out of service for 30+ days. I'll be trading the car before my warranty expires. My Corvette ownership experience has been a disappointment.
My 2017 GS was 4 ounces low, I know, not that much...but why can't the factory fill these properly?
If you check the service manual, the correct level can be as much as 1/2" below the fill hole. The differentials come from the manufacturer already filled with fluid... I think they may be just trying to save a few ounces of fluid on each car!
I don't think many, if any, dealers check the diff. fluid level as part of the PDI. Even so, if it is within 1/2" of hole, that would not be considered low.
My 2014 was almost a half quart low, which is a lot considering the capacity of the differential is only a little more than 2.5.

Best of luck to you.
i hope you are right that it doesn't have to be completely disassembled. I made an appointment for sept. 5th to have it replaced. My arbitration is on the 7th. I think it is just the elsd rear ends. One dealer said they got a bunch of bad ones from australia. I think i could do without a lot of this electronics they are putting on these new cars.
I have a 2017 Grand Sport with Automatic Trans. On banked turns the rear end makes a loud droning noise that has me concerned. Runs great otherwise. I’m going to bring it to KY dealer’s attention.
Has anyone had similar issues and found the problem and solution for it?

my 2016 would make a whoop whoop type noise from the rear, took it to three dealers, first one had to call tech support, after lubing the exhaust tail pipe valves that didn't resolve it, they told the tech to replace the rear differential. it took it to dealer #2, the tech said it was just the exhaust and not to worry about it. friend knew a mechanic that owned corvettes and works on them, he said the rear diff. is bad, that gm got a bad batch from a supplier. took to dealer #3, he described the noise exactly without even going for a ride, went for ride, he verified diff. was bad, he had changed one two weeks earlier. fought with gm to buy back car even with bbb arbitration, naturally lost case and dealer replaced diff. they knew of these bad diffs out there and still sold the cars, letting the customer stuck with a car that had the whole rear of it dismantled, the only thing left in the car was the transmission. everything else had to removed including the rear fascia, exhaust and suspension. it seems ok after the repair, but i only put a couple hundred miles on it since then. they said the ring gear in mine was not properly shimmed. very disappointed in gm for selling the cars with known bad differentials.
Rear end whine & noise has been a common problem is some 2016 Vetts. I have had one myself, 2016Z, rear end replace under warranty. You may need to find the right dealer to get it corrected. If the rear end has a wine, it will need to be replaced. Just in my area, I know of 4 Vettes that have the rear ends replace. There has also been cases of the rear end that was not full of lubricant, as mine was one of those, but found out too late. If the rear end is whining now, filling the lubricant will not help now.
i have a 16 c7 also, i took it to three dealers, first one had to call tech support, they tried to lube exhaust tail pipe valves ,then told the dealer to replace rear diff.. 2nd dealer sad noise was not a problem, 3rd dealer said rear diff is bad and gm knows about it. ended up having to have the diff. replaced. they knew of the problem but didn't want to recall the bad ones to replace the diffs.. apparently the ring gear was not properly shimmed from the vendor that builds the diffs.just like the ignition problem they had, but no one has gotten killed from the bad diffs.
I have a 16 stingray. They flushed the rear end twice, same noise. Went to another dealer, said the noise is not enough to fix it, going to another chevy dealer next week. Getting real tired of going from dealer to dealer, sent marry barr many e- mails, no response. A secretary of hers called, and read off a sheet mary gave to her, should of bought a mustang

if there is any unusual noise from the differential that they say isn't bad enough but still there, that means the problem is still there, what do they want to do? wait until the warranty is up. if they try three times to repair it, the lemon law should make them buy it back, at least that is the way it is in pa. if they worked on the same problem twice already, the third time they have to fix it and satisfy you that it is fixed. you can always file a complaint against them with your states attorney generals office. sometimes that will get their attention and show them you aren't going to let this go away. good luck and let me know what happens.

I had the rear end whine noise and the corvette tech said I needed a new differential. New diff installed and had the same rear end whine. Took car to my favorite tire repair shop and a tech went for a ride with me and said the rear end noise was my original tires which were chunking on the inside. (had 30K miles on them) New rear tires installed and no more rear end whine.
