Default Insurance question

Retired and been with Geico for 3 years. No accidents, no tickets, 3 cars, very low miles driven, (wife and I total miles driven 10,000 miles a year between us shared on all 3 cars). Not happy with the rates. Has anyone insured with Hagerty's or an antique type insurer for low miles driven? I have a 2016 z, older mecedes, and Nissan maxima. Most of the 10,000 miles are on the Nissan maxima everyday use. B/T/W, Hargerty's wanted $1000 less then Geico. Hmmmm

I checked out Hagerty, Grundy, American Collectors and a few more. I also have 2 other cars. Similar situation. Wife drives an RX350 about 5K per year and I drive a 2016 BMW 5 series about the same. Putting about 6K miles a year on my Corvette. Been with USAA for over 40 years and considering the annual rebates I get no one can beat their rates and service. I did not want a policy that restricted when, where and how I drive my Corvette.

Agree. USAA is very hard to beat. And a good company as well.

Nationwide beat them by a lot. Had my son in law quote USAA, it was lacking

I'm insured by Geico and their rates are actually cheaper than when I was with State Farm. I am retired military and USAA says I do not qualify - no reason given.

I agree only I was with USAA (retired military) last year prior to GEICO this year and PLUS for each new car, they offer an extended warrenty for up 7 yrs and 100,00 miles!
I have not only my Cadillac ELR(2014) with that extended warr. plus my 2016 Stingray as well! They charge a small premium monthly but even with that upcharge, my rates are STILL lower than USAA!
I WIN!

If you have no accidents or tickets, you can't beat Costco/Amerprise

I believe it's the area where you live,Some places USAA can't be beat, other areas not so much.

They've (USAA) always been the highest rates for me. I'm a member but never had any of their services. Geico was also creeping up in price so I switched to Travelers.

You don't know a whole lot about how insurance rates work do you?

I have been with Geico for 10 years!!! Perfect driving record and no claims... Travelers beat them by a looooong shot with a better policy and $250 deductible. I asked them how and his response was anyone who pays that much for a car is going to take care of it.

None of this matters as insurance rates are specific to each individual and significantly different state to state, even zip code to zip code. I've been an isurance agent for about 13 years and really the best way to fine a good policy is to call around to a couple independent brokers as they will have acces to the best non-captive companies (captive companies sell only one company, like Farmers, State Farm etc.) and call the local captives as well. You'll find the professionalism of the agency will make all the difference.

For me, Liberty Mutual was over $600/year less than USAA. I call USAA every year & get the same high rate almost the same as Hartford.

Several years ago I had Travelers (no claims, no tickets) and they started raising my rates at each renewal. I switched to Liberty Mutual for a way lower rate.

If you're retired military, there's no way you *don't* qualify for USAA.

As far as rates, combining insurance products can be a significant difference. Homeowners, personal liability, multiple vehicles.

I was with State Farm for over 20 years (no claims). A few years ago they raised my homeowners 12% without notice or explanation. When I called they were very ambivalent about when I told them I would shop for other policies. Switched to USAA for everything and a significant savings and haven't looked back.

**** State Farm and John Kraft.

I have my auto, homeowners and umbrella with USAA. I get a substantial rebate each year, up to $2000. When this is factored in I have not found anyone who can beat their net cost. YMMV.

I'm with Hartford. Been good, but lately rates seem to be going up. I guess the best thing to do is just shop around. Yes, the area you live in plays a significant role in the rate you pay. I glad I'm not in L.A.

Moved 22 miles last year. One zip code to another. Car insurance dropped a little. Asked my broker. Old zip had a higher theft and accident record than new zip code.

Bottom line, great companies recommended, but unless you shop around, many might not be right for you. Example. Geico recommended. For me they were MUCH higher than Traveler's. So Geico works for some. Didn't work for me.

Good luck! And remember, shop, shop, shop.
