So I have an appointment today to have them look at the TQ converter and this morning I went to back out of the driveway, shifted to D and check engine light comes on and stuck in 4th gear. WTF! Could this be the TQ or bigger problems? Anyone else have this happen? Flatbed is on the way.
All I can say is I had my T/C replaced but I had no symptoms like you are having. I had the delay in going from park to reverse but nothing close to your problem/s. I never had my check engine light come on. You might have something wrong with your transmission instead of your T/C. Good Luck. Hopefully your car is still under warranty.

sorry ... hope it is an easy fix ...but we both know the history of this ...
at least it did not happen in the middle of nowhere ...

By any chance do you use Range AFM disabler? In the last week two forum member (I am one of them) started up and ended up in 4th gear with a CEL. Removing it fixed things. Just a long-shot, but wanted to mention it.
I actually did use it last week and it killed my battery. Have not used it since last week and have driven the car a few times! WTH would cause that!! I wonder if that would show up on the scan tool?
Interestingly, I recently had EXACTLY the same thing happen with my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Everything was fine until I got home and pulled into my driveway. While stopped waiting for the garage door to open, the transmission went into fourth and the check engine light came on. Needless to say, it was tough pulling into the garage in fourth because my driveway has a moderate incline. I had the vehicle flat-bedded to the dealership. They determined that the code triggered by the CEL pointed to a solenoid that's somehow tied to the transmission. (I'm sorry but I don't have any more detailed info than that.) They replaced the solenoid and all has been fine in the two months since the repair. Hopefully your fix will be as easy.
I hope so too!! I've had several of the TQ symptoms as well, hard shift, shuttering and fluctuating RPM's as well. Prolly won't know anything until next week as the Corvette tech banged in sick today. This is my first Chevy I've ever owned so not impressed so far. I really love the car and planned on keeping it until I retire (I'm 49 and will retire at 55) but not sure now.

I too had the stuck in 4th issue after using the Range device.
If you check their website they describe the issue and fix.
The car's system goes into limp mode to prevent any damage due to the outdated software.
The Range device needs to be sent back to them for a free software update.
Cycling the engine a few time should clear the CEL and return the system back to normal.
Dealer scan will show communications failures between modules.
** I did not, however, have any of the TQ symptoms you mentioned - hard shift, shuttering and fluctuating RPM's

Reason: added info.
Wow I'm going to be pissed if that turns out to be the problem....can the dealer tell by reading the codes? Will there be an issue warranty wise using the Range?

Will be a communications error most likely. If its out of the car I doubt they will know what caused it, except for the pictures and your location in your profile anyhow
I won't lie to them if they ask. If they don't ask then I won't offer but if they do I will certainly tell them. But the weird part is the range hasn't been plugged in since it killed my battery this past weekend.

I had it on my Genesis. It would go into a safe mode and stay in 3rd. When it first started you could just restart the car to fix it. It kept doing it more often. Turned out to be bad grounds on the tranny control module.

I doubt they even ask if its just a comm error.
I had communication DTCs and complete engine shutdown at WOT (plus dead battery another time) with the Range in my '14 C7. They seem to work fine on the trucks though..
Of course it can be other things that caused it, wait and see what they say. If its a simple clear code and all is OK dont use the Range for a while and see what happens.
