That's why I bought the XPEL Clear Universal Door Sill Guard (60" x 2.75") Paint Protection Film Kit for $21.95 on Amazon. Those things are so easy to scratch that I would cringe every time someone would enter my car, including my "occasional" passengers.

Very cheap insurance policy, and always there if you need it.

Feel your pain and you have every right to expect better. Corvette people usually treat their cars special but to many folks including dealers and some service techs Corvettes are just another car. Still doesn't justify any mis treatment or dis-respect of a $65K vehicle they didn't pay for. I like your points of advise especially Number 1. Get that one right and everything else kinda takes care of itself. I always take my car in for service clean to demonstrate that I take care of my car. One thing additional I do is ask that my car be given to an experienced Corvette Tech (some dealers have them but maybe not all) who appreciates the car. Then I ask to meet the guy who is going to be assigned to my car. I introduce myself and tell him I am a Corvette fanatic which is true and as polite as possible ask the tech to take good care of the car. I always give the tech $10.00 and tell him I want to buy him lunch for taking care of my car. When I find a service tech I like I make appointments with him. Nothing is 100% these days but if you go out of your way for someone else sometime they go out of their way for you.

A little OCD man. Please don't pull in a service center with taped off parts to your car.

I would add, take a lot of pictures just before pulling into the service area. I also include a few with their building in the background. Both the photo time stamp and background proves the photos were taken on their property just before the car went into the service bay.

Ditto on the rental car photos. Avis tried to charge me $3000 for damage that was already there so I have the gate person write on my receipt that numerous marks are already on the vehicle and I always take photos as well.

They should take care of any car that comes in for service. I have never had an issue with any of my vehicles from a service technician. I guess I have lucked out with where I have taken my vehicles. As for the car being $65k plus have you shopped around lately their are a lot of vehicles in excess or this amount. A corvette is a great car but not more than any of my other vehicles.

So you had to bribe the tech to do his job?!! No way. Warranty work is free; the tech is paid by GM. That is a reason to stay far away from any dealer where one feels the need to pay additional "under the table" money for them to do what they are already required to do!

Boots dragging across the driver door? Really? I'm trying to envision exactly what position the car and the mechanic would need to be in for that to occur. I can't think of any.

Hmm... They had used a plastic cover and somehow the dirt from the guys overalls got through the plastic? How exactly do you think that happened?

Obviously you have not heard about valet mode. Or perhaps you car lacks it...

You have evidence that washing the car caused yet more damage? Somehow I don't think so...

And they screwed up your undersides too. I'm sorry but it's very hard for me to believe they damaged your door by purposely taking off (they must have) their shoes and dragging them across your driver's door for no reason, made sure they got their dirt through the plastic protection they put on your car, joy rided it then damaged the underbody by hoisting it up.

Look, a sexist too!
Yep.... Lee Anne is one of the 2 senior Corvette techs at Spring Mtn she is responsible for 250 stingrays and ZO6s... after meeting her I wished she would move east...

you are funny ! first of all the tech gets paid by the job..he does not get paid for driving around with me while I demonstrate my A8 issues...

ask the folks that have had their car damaged or dirty ...if it would have been worth it to give the tech a few bucks .... to each his own ..but folks
that work hard for a living .. I tip generously ..

after reading this thread I did snap a few photos before my first oil change, but survived with only a few fingerprints. I did print 2 "please do not wash signs" based on previous experience. One extra suggestion is to add those lock-in-place pucks just to be safe. My service tech even mentioned he liked them.

It's your money. If you want to pay people extra money to do what they already should be doing, have fun. I will not... The dealership and the technicians are already paid! I guess some people like to throw money away. I prefer to be frugal. But to each his own.

I've had no problem with the dealer getting my car dirty when I've taken any of them in for warranty work.

Had mine in yesterday (Van Bortel Chevrolet), for an oil change. Checked in read the paper and watched a bit of news on TV in the waiting room. 20 minutes or so later tech comes out tells me the car is is all set, where it is parked, the oil used, DIC reset to 100%, tire pressure all set and good to go. This was my 3rd of the free oil changes so no bill to pay.
I did give the tech $20.00 tip for lunch or whatever as he always does excellent work and is the dealers dedicated tech who only works on Corvettes.
Car is exactly like I brought it in, seat placement, no dirt, no damage, no worries.
I agree. Van Bortel kicks ***! Nate and his crew are the best!

It seems a shame that we can't have the confidence to leave our cars with someone and pay them for service without worrying about damage. I can afford to pay for oil changes but I do them myself so I know they are done right and there will be no damage. Some service items are beyond my equipment and abilities, on those I have no choice.

if you take pics BEFORE you get to the dealer, if they're going to lie about not causing damage, they'll lie about "when those pics were taken", and say they can't be sure the damage wasn't put there after the pics, by you. Take the pics at the dealer, preferable with the service writer in some of the pics...

i think he means inside of door...

Hmm... They had used a plastic cover and somehow the dirt from the guys overalls got through the plastic? How exactly do you think that happened?
maybe the plastic moved as he ws getting in/out? not hard to figure out with a little common sense.

Obviously you have not heard about valet mode. Or perhaps you car lacks it...
true, valet mode can possibly help.

You have evidence that washing the car caused yet more damage? Somehow I don't think so...
Ummm, he means that the person washing can cause damage cause he doesn't care about the car like the owner does, therefor causing swirls, scratches, etc...

And they screwed up your undersides too. my C6, was heavily damaged under drivers side rocker by a dealer. Didn't find it till i got home and knew i couldn't prove the dealer did it, so i just touched up the rocker with paint, but it was in bad shape. Luckily it was under the car and no one would see it

Look, a sexist too!

LOL when I take my car in I do the following:

Take in in freshly detailed. I tell them not to wash it. This makes sure its easy to see that I took it in with no damage and when I get it back damage is easy to spot.

Take full video and pictures of all exterior and interior of car inside the dealer area with pictures showing the dealer area. Sometimes they look at me like I am crazy buts its good CYA so when you get it back if anything has happened you have video and picture proof that the car was right there undamaged when you dropped it off.

Inspect rocker area underneath car and make sure my pucks are there. I've had my car returned to me minus a jack puck or two. They always give them back but if I had not checked I would be out that expense.

Dealerships usually understand what I am doing and why I'm doing it.
