Didn't apply to the C7.

Put it this way Consumer Reports gave the 2014 C7 a much higher reliability rating than the 2015 C7. Also I will not part with my 2014 C7 A6 until all problems are solved with the C7 A8. You are right OP the transmission is a major component of the overall car!

I laughed at the people who told me not to buy the first year C7. I bought the first month of production in 2013 but it has 17,000 trouble free miles. No warranty work ZERO.

If Chevy can't figure out what's wrong with the A8 I'm sure the A10 is going to be groovy. I think they should tear apart a A8 that is working and find out why.

You are correct. The original '53 Vette came with a 2 speed auto.
My original comment simply stated that my preference was for manual transmissions and that it is my opinion that manuals are more appropriate for sports cars. I believe the manual provides the driver with a much better control of the car.....no computer dictating gear selection, etc. and you are also correct that most auto trans. have no problems. So, if any driver prefers to have the auto trans, that's fine with me. I'll stick with the stick!

Agreed that the old-school belief that first MY vehicles should be avoided is no longer valid. If anything, today there's more QC and attention to detail when a new generation is introduced. Complacency and boredom are more likely to set in over time as a generation gets deeper into it's run.

Since 2000, I've purchased 10 first-year models of various makes, and had excellent experiences w/ all but one of them. The only lemon was a BMW. Three of the 10 great ones were Corvettes ('05 C6 Z51, '06 C6 Z06, and '14 C7 Z51--all MTs).

It is a known fact that a auto trans can NOT hold up under heavy torque. Look at the track record with the Big 3 Diesel pickups. The tranny is the weakest link of the drivetrain in those rigs. If I didn't need a auto trans I would not own one in a high torque configuration. A Vette is a high torque configuration.

.,In a 1953 Corvette with a 6 cylinder, yes. In a 2012 ZR1. NO. That's why it did not have one. In the Z06 you folks asked for it and got it along with a reduced warranty.

One day you will learn, son. You would do best to start with your grammar, then work up to the realization that people having the wherewithal to spend $75,000 on a car should without question buy the one they want, and after reaching those milestones you might finally be lucky enough to learn the importance of respect for others.

Buy the 14.... I toyed with the same question... Remember, its a car!!!

If money has anything to to do with your decision... no brainer

I bought my 14 3LT vert loaded, owner paid $83k drove it 5k miles and sold it to me for $56.
It will still be worth much less a year from now but with what I saved I can splurge on something else...
Trust me, 5 years from now you will look back... It's just a car!

Do you think for piece of mind a lightly used 14 is the better way to go? I'm planning on keeping the Vette I buy for for awhile. I live in an area without a dealer with a lot of Vette expertise. So having them tear apart the Vette would be a concern too.

I know a lot of A8s running ok, but the tranny is a not like a minor part to be fixed. It's one of the biggest components of the whole car. I'm 50/50 on which way to go....

Which way would you go?

Two years with my A6 now , nothing done but change the oil. Been a great car, people have no idea if it is a '14 or a '16, get that question along with compliments in parking lots all the time. Besides I love the Crystal Red, not available any longer. When the C8 comes out I will decide whether it is time then to upgrade again, hopefully they will have worked thru the issues of the new generation tranny.
