Door Sill protectors
looking for clear sill protectors to keep sill plate from scratching. The onesthey sell do they stay on or a pain in the neck. They seem very flimsey. Any experience or advise.

recently purchased on Amazon, XPel clear film protection for door sills. Just the right width, and you cut to length. Easy installation, and it works.

I got the clear hard plastic ones and they stay on very well and never have popped off or been kicked off. I also have the clear plastic ones that go on the bottom of the doors as the wife was always scraping the bottom of the door panel and I did not want her heels to go through them! They mate very well and don't interfere with each other.
I'll just replace them if they get too scratched up. Better than having to replace the panels or repaint.

The other ones cover the whole threshold but I've read some negatives about them that stuff can get under them and potentially scratch. I dunno though, that's just what I've read, it's not from experience.

I bought the rigid plastic ones, my first mod. The passenger side worked flawlessly. The driver side cause little tiny scratches to be etched into the aluminum sill plate and the painted sill area. I was always careful to wash them inside and out and dry them making sure they were clean, as well as the sill but it didn't help in my case. Not sure why this happened on one side only but suspect some kind of clearance issues.
They did stay in place very well.

I have a set of the hard plastic. They work fine keeping the scratches off the sill plate. No door rubbing.
Only downside is when you wash the car or happen to get caught out in the rain, water gets under them, so you have to remove them to wipe dry and then replace. Mine are held in place with Velcro to the carpet.

I had a set of the hard plastic ones for a short time and got rid of them. If anything gets under them, you'll have even more scratches on you sill plates. Also, when you take them off to clean the sill plates, the Velcro will pull the carpet fibers up. The Xpel option works fabulously without the aforementioned issues.

I had a pair in the car, but they were wearing spots in the paint so I took them out. I'd rather deal with the scuffs than worn paint.

To cover the door sill plate, you only need material that is 24" long and about 5" wide.

Had them hated them they made more damage and they were installed properly. Do yourself a favor and don't buy them. Just be careful how you get in and out of your car.
I tried the other ones and they scratch the paint and the sills .
I put this on too. Works great and is invisible. It only covers the aluminum sill though.

Film application is the only way to go....in the past I have used wide clear shipping tape to protect door sills. I bought the clear hard plastic protectors for my C7 only to discover what has been said here...they cause more damage than they prevent. I finally ordered a roll of Lamin-X film that really does the trick. You can special order any sizes you want from their website.
