Really Bad Odor 2016 Stingray Z51

Guess I am lucky, didn't have any Bad Smell with my 2016 and had it since 9-2016. Had two road trips when I first picked up. Total over 2,500 miles. No idea what that could be

I must be nuts because I loved the smell. It's the embodiment of 2 months of sleepless nights anticipating the arrival of the most badass car I've ever owned. Now two months later the smell has really dissipated and I kind of miss it. I liked going in the garage and just wafting the fiberglass epoxy resin goodness. Mmmmmm.

After 17K miles, my car still has a smell, just figured it was glue, leather, and new car.
Wife likes it so we never take the top off hoping it stays longer.

Changed mine for one I bought on Amazon that contains carbon. It was less expensive than the GM replacement that does not.
Easy to replace but if you have a dry sump, the plastic cover is behind the tank near the top. Removed the hose, which made it easier to access.
Wonder if a bag of activated carbon as used in aquarium filters could help. Could buy a container and put in an old Nylon sock and leave in the hatch and see if it helps! Or perhaps just sprinkle it over the carpet and the after it absorbs some of the volitals causing the smell, vacuum it up!

Ozium. When I smoked in my econobox I started using this stuff after I quit for about 6 months. Kept the smell away and eventually got rid of it. You'll probably have to replace it about once a month for a little while. but it should get rid of the smell (might need two depending on how bad it is). The smell is from the Epoxy still going through its curing process, that would be my guess anyway.
If it's a musty/moldy type smell. try turning the A/C off about 5 minutes before you reach your destination and just vent outside air. it will kill the moldy build up from the condensation that the A/C creates.

Joe if you find out a way to deal with the smell please let me know. I too live in Fairfax, VA and have experienced the smell of the C7s in hot DC weather. My 2017 is expected to come sometime by this week since shipments for have finally started as of today.
PS. I heard having a bag of coffee to absorb the smell might help. Not sure.

Piked up my 2016 Stingray Z51 7/22/16. After driving home there was an unusual smell in the cabin. Sort of like an obnoxious hot plastic smell.
Certainly not the new car smell I am used to. Today temps in DC 100
the smell was almost too much, had to drive with windows open or I think I might have gotten sick. Any help or suggestions?

Call some Auto Detailing Shops and see what advice they have. Call more than one. They may have a ozone machine that treats these strong chemicals on an overnight basis.

My one month old car has the strong plastic smell as well and sometimes its overwhelming. I do like the fact that is smells new, but the harmful effects of inhaling plastic fumes is not good. I park it in the garage with the windows open and roof off and it dissipates very quick.
Someone answers are questionable, but as we all know "you can ask a smart question and get a DUMB answer" (really)

mrbeautie is spot on, if you want to hurry the curing process to eliminate the smell. In the same way you would use a hair dryer to dry a sample spot of paint, you could park your car in the sun and let the gases cook off, also aging your car that much quicker in the process. It's kind of a Catch-22.

It's normal for sure. Has nothing to do with 'GM' or 'being a Chev' - only has to do with the material our C7s are made from, the glues, etc.
The good news is that time will take care of it, but there are also some other steps you can take in the interim.
We got our C7 new in April '15. The smell was strong - didn't really bother me that much but it did my wife. Here is what I did:
* When not being used, left the car parked in the garage with the windows open.
* Got one of the Fabreze auto freshners that clip on HVAC vents.
* Got carpet fresh and sprinkled it on the carpet in front, on the mats, and in the hatch area. Re-freshed it about every 3-4 days.
The fabreze and carpet fresh 'hid' the strong resin smell really well, and was not overwhelming at all. With this, my wife wasn't bothered by the resin smell, and by the time we took our first long (3.5k) road trip the end of September it was no problem.
Hope this helps. It'll go away.........
