Not me. The car. I've had my A8 non-Z51 for a week. After the break-in period I nailed the throttle from a stop. When the car shifted to 2nd there was a loud clung in the rear end. I did it again with the same result. Should I be concerned?

Not normal, if it continues I would take a trip to the dealer. Some A8's need updates.

It could be the backfire caused by momentary ignition interruption during full throttle acceleration on automatic cars to reduce peak torque load on the transmission. The resultant unburned fuel them makes a brief popping sound when shifting.

It is designed that way.
