180 mile test drive today: Morning start, NO lurch when put into drive first event of the day - awesome. upto temp and driving, shifting about normal, little harsh but its a corvette so I am ok with it. On I95 south, smooth road, cruise on, V4 mode 100 - 200 rpm oscillating RPM's, some vibrations, some light acceleration to exit lane...bam...car jerked like I had been re-ended, wife and I looked at each other, holy cow...tried to recreate it, no luck...."once again Chevy's comments: Normal operation of controlled capaicty clutch in torque converter. Operating to factory specs at this time." I guess tomorrow will be me wasting my time at yet the dealer again.....Come on Chevy/GM chime in and help.....us
OP take your car to a dealer who has replaced T/C. Yours is bad and is only going to get worse. Lurching is a symptom of a bad torque converter. If you google symptoms of a bad torque converter you will see you have most of them. The stator has nothing to do with your problem. I had the same problems you have and a new revised T/C solved all problems. My car has been trouble free for 9 thousand miles after the new T/C.
Thanks to all, and Redcjax, I spent the morning with the Service Manager at my dealership...shame on GM/Chevy tech for comment: "Normal operation of controlled capacity clutch in torque converter. Operating to factory specs at this time" Clearly TSB #pip 5337D dated June 3, 2016 (Shudder....) states if RPM fluctation is greater than 10RM and studder is felt. Torque Converter is required to be changed out with new model, and a complete flush of system is required to remove any contaminates....Mine is ordered...and yet another removal of my transmission is required within 6 week timeframe, but hey atleast it will be finally fixed, provided no new problem is established with major work...I am hopefull thou...Thanks again to everyone, GM you should of chimed in and offered assistance..
2015 A8 - not sure of the build date. About 19000 miles. Two problems:
1. Car would lurch - occasionally - when starting cold. Shifting into drive - car would not move for a second, then would lurch ahead. If I let it warm up for a few minutes, the problem would not occur. In addition, once or twice, coming to a rolling stop and then modestly accelerating - car seemed to take a second before engaging a gear.
2. The big problem was on the highway running at a steady speed (usually with cruise control on) and in V4 mode. When in v4 mode and slight gas given - like going over an overpass - car would shake/vibrate. If the car shifted to v8 mode - problem went away. Or, if I quickly shifted to manual mode - forcing v8 - shutter/vibration would go away. This was a huge problem on my recent 2900 mile trip and I ended up leaving the car in manual mode 90% of the time.
Explained all this to Classic Chevrolet in Sugar land, TX. Took the car in on Saturday - they called today (Monday) and said they ordered a new torque converter and something called a turbine shaft. They need the car for a week - not a problem for me.
So, sorry to have a problem, but really happy Classic Chevrolet appears to be getting on it.
