Default A8-Here I Go

to the dealer Tuesday. When car goes into V4 mode, rpm's go up, and down 200 rpm, car shakes, rattles, bucks. Feels like driving on cobble stones. When put in manual mode, it is fine.

Sucks! I'm in the same boat. Waiting on new torque converter to arrive.

Has GM made a 180 and decided that V4 (AFM) mode shudder relates to the A8 after all? From an old TSB (PIP5337A, Jan. 20, 2016):

Note: If the shudder is only present in 4 cylinder mode deem the shudder concern normal characteristic of AFM.

I'd still like to know how shudder and tach oscillation in V4 mode but not in V8 mode relates to the A8. I'm glad mine works fine with a few minor quirks, as I don't think GM has a clue what's going on. I base this on the number of "fixes" proposed over the past year or more: Change tranny fluid, replace the tranny, replace the TC, then replace the stator shaft support assembly.

That must be why the first dealer I went to said my car was "within spec"

I guess my car wasn't within spec the first 12,000 miles since I had no shudder whatsoever while in V4 mode

Now that was funny !! About the only thing funny about this A8 ...

When they do not know what to do ...the answers are " it meets specs"
or "just keep driving it " as I was told .... but when you think about this issue ...maybe we are better off to just keep diving it ...and with any luck the car just self destructs beyond repair ...would be a better scenario than have your car ripped apart and put back together ..

If GM can't get the A8 right in a Corvette, what makes you think they can get an A10 right? Just asking.

Good question. I took a lot of good natured ribbing when I bought in 2014. Just for fun some laughed that I only had a 6 speed.

Sometimes advancements are not all that good. The question is will 10 speeds solve all these little problems? We shall see.

This is not just a momentary shutter! Whenever car is in V4 mode, it is displaying the symptoms I described. I know a small % have had A8 problems, I was hoping, to be in the higher % It'll be taken care of, and life goes on.

Mine did the same and as long as the car was in V4 it would shudder, stop, shudder, stop and it would continue until the car was taken out of cruise control. The dealer recognized the symptoms of a bad torque converter and had already replaced about 5. After the new revised torque converter was installed no more problems. I now have 9K trouble free miles. Good luck!!

Just got finished at dealer, they are ordering a new torque converter for this very problem...check out PIP #5337D shudder.... dated June 3, 2016. Any flucation greater then 10rpm and shudder requires change out of torque converter and system flush... Thanks to RedC6 Jax for all the help, also look at my post A8 fixed hopefullly.

If I had the A8 I would have disabled AFM from day one.

It sounds like it's a problem with the converter locking/unlocking in A4 mode, and I bet in manual mode lockup has a different schedule (if it locks at all)
