Threw a rod Sunday at Gingerman
So I've had my '14 for 6 months. It was a demo delivered in late '15. I bought it with 2500 miles. Z51, Mag ride. At Autobahn 2 weeks ago I blew the exhaust, I think their called actuators. Had them replaced under warranty. It also over heated that weekend. Had oil and brakes flushed. This last weekend had it out 3 sessions, it was wet and cool the 4th session, 3500 rpm on a straight threw a rod out the bottom of the engine.
The mechanic at Chevy says he sees a few '14's with this issue. He said the #6 piston exploded. Getting a '16 engine under warranty.
Be back at Blackhawk in a couple of weeks. Hope it had holds up.

That sucks. Hopefully it won't be down too long for you.

If you can really drive this car on track, and it's not a dry sump engine, you will see many more rods sticking out of the block

Good luck with the repairs - and nice that it is covered under warranty.

[QUOTE=dprestidge;1592741656]Besides that, people have been racing corvettes for a lot of years before dry sump. Still lots of cars being tracked without dry sump.[/QUOTE
I thought I read Tadge saying something about the oil pan being kind of shallow in the LT1 in the C7 due to trying to squeeze it into a lower vertical profile, thus a tendency to unport the oil pickup in higher-G turns. Thus the dry sump for the track-oriented Z51. Is this not really an issue?

Yes, high-G track use which can cause the oil pump/pickup to spend too much time sucking air instead of oil in the pan is exactly the reason for the dry sump system.

Which means that user dprestige's comment about racing with wet sumps is not necessarily applicable to the C7.

Quote from Tadge in this thread: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...te-engine.html
"The LT1 in the Corvette sits lower and very close to the ground to enable an industry-leading low profile hood and good sight lines despite a very low seated position. Having the engine close to the ground is great for keeping the vehicle's center of gravity down, but means the oil pan is relatively shallow. Having little depth in the oil pan means it is very challenging to scavenge oil in high G loading conditions. For this reason we add dry sump lubrication to our high performance models."

"In honor of jpee"
Just wondering out loud: even tho the warranty time/miles may be in effect in a couple of months or a full year, how many more times could he go back and get it "covered under warranty?"

There's no language in the warranty that limits replacements as long as the vehicle remains stock and maintenance is maintained.

I was told the new engine will have the remaining warranty. As long as I leave the engine stock it's covered. We'll see how it holds up. It's been fun and I'm getting comfortable with the handling on the track. I run race mode with traction control off.
Any pointers for other issues I should be looking for?
