Default Considering a 2016 Z06. Help!!

Considering getting a 2016 Z06 Manual looking at how heavily they are discounted.

I have a 2015 Z51 A8 that I drive daily and average between 18-20 MPG.
I want to go over some questions/concerns I have:

1) With the Z06, will I be able to keep it as daily driver or will it just be a weekend car?

2) If I am averaging between 18-20 MPG on my C7 Z51, how much should I expect to get on the Z06?

3) Maintenance wise, will I have do anymore more than a C7 Z51?

4) What more do I get out of a Z06 compared to a GS besides the power?

I don't think it would turn into a weekend car just because it's a Z06. Really the same car except more power and better suspension.

With the MR suspension, it's gonna ride pretty smooth on most roads like your Z51 would.

Can't think if anything that would be more for maintance. both use the same dry sump oil system which uses the same amount of oil.

I guess your tires will cost more in the long run and more money for pads and rotors?

No idea on MPG.

And it's basically the same engine (allbeit with some HD parts) with an added supercharger that produces more power IF you give it more throttle. How much does the OP use the 460 HP he has now? As a DD not a high percentage of the time, I'm sure!

Assume he'll use the 650 HP from time to time or why bother!

Expect mpg will have more to do on how much average throttle he uses versus the different engine!

I went from Camaro SS to Camaro Zl1. Both were fine as daily drivers, but I did drop mpg from 18 to 14.

Now since the 2017 is getting some new mods for the heating issue, will there be a recall on the 2016s for the same upgrade?

anyone considering picking up a 15 or 16 z06 might want to read this first;

http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2016/...etter-cooling/

the alterations to the cooling system might be extensive, such as new cooling vents on each side of the front fascia, possibly different airflow exit wrt the radiator. will it come out the top of the hood as it does in the current models or will there be a significant change? if the latest pictures of the test car is the 17, it shows the hood totally covered, so, if accurate, it suggests the hot air exit might go back to a more traditional radiator airflow direction.

p.s. after looking closer at these pictures

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ting-pics.html

i can see a bigger hood bulge possibly, so maybe no major change in airflow for heat dissipation, just more exit capability out the rear of the hood compared to current models.

Everything I read states the Z wants to kill you, yet I still want one.

The power needs to be respected, obviously this young tool took on more then he could handle. Take off all the nannies and you can easily do this in your stingray.

Read the regular maintenance costs are roughly the same. Where it gets expensive is on the track.

If anyone can chime in on my comment, I'd appreciate it.

Just get a GS if you like the Z06 looks. 460 HP is plenty. I think the GS will be harder and costlier to maintain vs a Stingray (dry sump and tires mostly is what I am thinking).

I rented a C7 Stingray and I thought it was awesome. If I can convince myself that this is the proper car for I intend on using it I can save thousands over a GS.

Help me....haha.

Stop and go driving will probably yield a fairly large hit compared to your current Z51. On a recent trip to TN my 2016 Z06 (A8, "level 1" aero with added ACS side skirts) yielded 26.2 MPG on the return trip running mostly 80-82 on the interstate and overall mine stays in the 20-21 MPG range but I live in a rural area where there are very few stop signs, lights, or roads with less than 55 MPH posted limits.

Overheating would be a concern only for a fairly accomplished track driver; you won't overheat it on the street unless something is very wrong with your particular Z06. Mine runs around 192 ECT / 195 oil temp cruising rising to 202-205 ECT and around 210 oil in summer stop and go. A recent pretty hard run on the Tail of the Dragon barely moved the temp above normal cruising temps.

If you are OK driving a Z51 as a daily driver then you should be fine with the Z06 however check the insurance costs because your age/driving record/location could create a significant jump from the Z51. As a 56 year old retired prof living in a rural area with a low annual mileage on the Z06 insurance rates are cheap but it is one of 4 vehicles in a 2 driver household so its non-daily driver usage makes a big difference.

I only test drove a Z51 for a short time before ordering my Z06 so I really cannot comment much on the relative ride difference. The Z06 in touring is stiffer than my Cadillac ATS with its MRC set to sport. The Z06 is slightly wider than your Z51 which might make it more of an issue to park in some parking garages.

The fun factor is definitely there! I just returned from a trip to Florida where I flew in and the rental car I had while there wasn't a lot of fun but given the very cheap airfare it wasn't worth driving the Z06 1,200 miles but I sure missed having it. Next time I will have to see how much it would cost to rent at least a base C7 while in Florida
