Default NPP necessary?

I have noticed that most Corvettes come with the RPO NPP exhaust option on non-Z51, non-Z06 models. I am debating about whether to get this option, save the money, or direct the money to a different option. Even though I might like the extra sound of the NPP option, I am not sure that I want to spend the money on this option for the extra sound or extra 5 HP. Any advice is most appreciated.

thanks,

Tom

Well, you'll probably not notice the 5 hp. I bought NPP option for 2 reasons. I wanted the louder rumble or quiet pipes option. I also preferred the look of the larger pipes. Your preferences may vary.

I ordered my Base non-Z51 with what I must have #1 was A8 and the other must have was NPP. NPP is worth the small price.

Look at it this way. If you don't get it your stuck with the stock sound. If you do you can change it from stock to louder. Of course it's not necessary but it's a cool option.

Good advice. I gather that most Corvette enthusiasts have the same opinion

I bought my 1st 2014 C7 without NPP and soon after put on a Flowmaster axleback system which was much better than the too quiet non-NPP exhaust.
The downside, when it went to 4 cylinder mode it sounded like a f-rt canned Honda.

On my 2016 C7 I got the NPP, better than both the non-npp and Flowmaster, just pull fuse 42 so it stays open and leave the exhaust in sport or track mode.

NPP is a must have.

If the corvette god said you only get one option on your order, use it wisely. NPP would be it, hands down. A must have.

After having crazy loud cars for years. I always do full exhaust on my cars, the idea of being able to control the sound is huge. Now having OEM integration of the exhaust is even bigger.

One requirement for me is to hear that exhaust so it had to be npp. Pulled fuse 42 and have that sweet music all the time. Well worth the cost.

I went with the stock exhaust, it doesn't sound like a Buick, I like the look of the smaller pipes. I saved the extra cost for my next Corvette.

NPP is VERY popular with Corvette owners and helps when you want to sell the car. The local dealer sells quite a few Corvettes. All the Corvettes they order for their stock are ordered with NPP. In 2014, they accidently ordered two without NPP. Neither sold until deep into 2015 when they were heavily discounted.
NPP was the #1 option on my "must have" list.

Something on the order of 90% of C7s are built with NPP. I wouldn't buy one without it.

Go for the NPP! It sounds glorious and you will love it.

It's one of those things people add to their cars even if they don't add the Z51 package.

As you can see, NPP is very popular. I will, however, give you a different take.

First, NPP pluses: Great looks and greatly improved sound.

Now the minuses: Improved sound compared to what? Compared to stock, of course. But the stock sound is so pathetic, anything sounds good by comparison.

Your salesman will tell you that, as an added benefit, NPP allows you to control the sound: loud when you want it, soft when you don't. But that's not entirely true. NPP sounds great initially, but then goes soft on its own, even when you have it set to stay loud all the time. In fact, the computer, not you, decides when it wants to be loud or soft. Major design flaw, IMO.

As a couple posters in this thread have advised you, the workaround is to pull a fuse. If you don't mind doing that, you're good.

Others have reported (not recently) that pulling a fuse will throw a code. Still others (more recently) have said that pulling the fuse will not throw a code. Finally, some have complained that NPP, while far better than stock, is still too quiet.

I'll add another NPP benefit: It comes from the factory. You're done.

The alternative, what I did, is to order the stock exhaust, then immediately have my Chevy dealer swap it for an aftermarket exhaust. Result: Great sound, great looks, and, important to me, no need to pull a fuse and no computer involvement with my exhaust sound.

Many choices. Good luck with whatever you choose.

NPP tames the 4 Cylinder Mode Drone.
Plus it gives you the talk on the phone option plus great sounding exhaust with a simple mode switch between Touring & Sport/Track

Look at the price of a quality aftermarket exhaust system & installation and compare it with the $1,195 NPP adds to the sticker. The NPP also has the benefit of controlling the level of sound, Tour, Sport, Track through the vehicle drive settings on the center console screen. I would not buy a Corvette without it. I should add it sounds great inside teh car and out. My wife says it's the best "sounding" Vette I've ever owned.

It all depends on what your plans for the car are too. I mean is an added option, meaning your going to pay good money for the option. Me, I had no intention on changing the exhaust so i went with the NPP because I like the louder rumble and and the option to go quiet.

I would personally get it but if you plan on putting a better exhaust system on in the future save the money. But I recommend it GREAT OPTION and I would order it again
