So that will pretty much be the final nail in nav tool's coffin.

Full functionality and no third party magic boxes.

Don't hold your breath. I can almost guarantee you that CarPlay and AA will never do mirroring. That would be completely unsafe and they would not risk it. Waze will be available AA but probably not for CarPlay.

I have been in the wireless industry for 20 years and have been a part of testing and development for emerging products.

Why would mirroring your smartphone be unsafe?

Waze or google maps will never be available on CarPlay, Apple doesn't want third party apps except radio, my drive to my relatives is 1:45-2 hours son waze shows me all the cop traps on the way. I don't think it's unsafe I programm it while I'm parked and I go

Distracted driving, it's unsafe to handle your smartphone while driving.

How is that any different than finger farking with all the other geegaws on your dash/control panels/gauges?

I was under impression I will get Waze, Google maps etc etc. My brother decided to get 2016 C7 this week, I wish he got it last week. So i wouldn't waste 1200 like an idiot. Now I have to spend more money and get Navtool.

P.S. If you think that CarPlay will give you full miroring it won't. Do not spend your money on HMI upgrade. After reading this forum I realized 2015 or 2016 you need Navtool to get full miroring and proper front camera.

If you are using Navtool please let me know if my assumptions are correct ?
I'm sorry to read this. I wish you'd posted a question here before starting down this path. Many of us view CarPlay as pretty much useless, and would have advised you this wouldn't work.

Less "finger farking" with CarPlay while texting using voice commands. Texting while looking down at a smartphone using both hands is way more distracting.

SAS, that was too funny.

Which reminds of a great Colbert episode when he hosted the founder of Twitter. Colbert turns to him and asks "what hath God ****?

Sorry new to NavTool.. they are coming out with a new Navtool that will be wireless so you don't need to connect your phone via USB? Any eta?

Edit: never mind I spoke with them. They said iPhone will never mirror wireless since Apple blocks it. Only Apple TV can mirror

We have come a long way. . Almost 2019 and WE CAN use wireless for Navtool. For an additional $130 or so, you can get the wireless box that goes between the wireless box and the Apple /Android that goes directly into the back of your factory infotainment unit... Time marches on!
Very helpful post OP. . Thanks!! 👍

Good to hear! I didn't keep up with this hardware. Have you purchased this and tested it?

I installed Navtool on my ‘15 primarily for the need of a parking camera after destroying my splitter. The added bonus of mirroring my iPhone is great. Sometime after I installed it, I got a rental that had CarPlay and I was not impressed. For some reason I thought that would allow the same functionality as the iPhone, and I was wrong! It’s an “OK” feature, but Navtool is a better option than upgrading for CarPlay.

The install wasn't terrible, but I had the toughest time fishing the cable through the back of the center console. I found it was easier to cut the the connector off and re-solder it back on after running it. I think they should leave the connector off for ease of installation. Then you can pin the connector after running it.
