I disagree with Foosh - and agree with theplatinummog
- my description of the M7 is it's vague....
I've been rowing gears in cars for more than 60 years... never had as much trouble with shifting as I have had in the C7 - EVER.
I think you may be "over-guiding" the shifter. In my car, if you just push almost straight up or down w/ just a very slight motion to left or right, the springs guide it to the intended next higher or lower gear. If your left or right motion is exaggerated, you will routinely miss a shift. My description is that it's incredibly precise.
I haven't missed a shift since day 2 w/ the car, but there may be some variability in the OEM shifters, just as people report w/ other parts. Perhaps your car is different, but I couldn't possibly know w/o driving it.
Anyways, MGW will fix it. But coming from a gt4 I bet you find the stock c7 shifter "rubbery"
It does accept ridiculously quick shifts. But you really have to pay attention. I only drove a cayman, but I never had to think about the porsche shifter. I almost have to mentally prepare myself for the 2 to 3 at the drag strip. Letting off the gas for a brief moment makes shifting into third pretty easy. But the no lift shift feature sounds and feels cool so I still try to make it happen almost every time... and this is when I miss 3rd. Happens after looping on onramp, digging out in 2nd, taking it to red line, leaving my foot planted and then SLAM right into the gate. Kills my whole buzz.

The 7th forward gear creates a 4th row of gears. So now there are 2 neutral positions. The normal one between rows with 1-2 and 3-4... and a new one between the row with 3-4 and 5-6. That second N position makes it tricky to move the shifter up and over. You got to move it over just the right amount or you will miss 3 and end up in 5. Or miss 5 and end up in 7
Anyone read this month's car and driver? "The shifter is just as likely to find fifth gear instead of third as it is in the Zo6."
Then hooniverse review of the GS says, "except my 2nd to 5th bullshit."
Maybe someone in your regional section would let you take a turn for lunch or something to try it out
Not sure what it is with Tremecs sometimes shift smooth othertimes can feel slightly notchy. Not sure I like the hyd clutches either some of them dont like to be stabbed to hard or quick. In that respect miss manual linkages, cant ever miss on an old Muncie and no leaks
Just takes time thats all. I wouldnt expect a GM trans to feel as good as say a ZF would. They are still decent though.
Seventh feels like the deliberate motion you need for reverse. I haven't found this car any worse to drive than other manual cars I have driven. The seventh gear is strange, but you get used to it once you remember it's there.
I like to use what power i have available. Watched a bunch of new C7 and older Z06's on the track at Watkins Glen on Labor day. Nice power for the track but what the OP said is so true about almost too much for the street. Especially since a new Tesla can still smoke you. Happy with the power of my Z51 and dont mind the 31mpg on highways either. The A8 seems flawless and really bangs a gear faster than any human can. I have a few manuals around and love shifting but man oh man. Just so much fun, even intraffic. Decided depends a lot on where you live and how you drive the car. I would love a manual but not in the typical eastern seaboard traffic. Just not a practical choice. Ha, my daily driver is a stick.

Just curious about your statement. A tesla is electric car with AWD and in a completely different category than a Z06. What does a Tesla being faster than a Z have anything to do if you need more power or not?? There are very few cars that can do 0-60 under 3 seconds, thats reaching the limits of a rear wheel drive car.
You can defiantly see the difference. The Z is a much wider car, looks even more menacing with the Z07 package.
The only thing Stringray is headlights/ tail lights (placed much closer together) glass/doors/mirrors and rear hatch/exhaust
Every other body panel in pure Z06.
Notice how much taller hood is as well as larger heat extractors
The c6 base car had many more similar panels to the c6z hood/bumper/steering wheel no aero package to further set it apart.
I test drove the Z06 before ordering the C7 Z51. Yes the Z06 is a beast but there are limits on how far you can push it on normal roads, which is 99% of my driving.
My C7 Z51 I can push hard on small back roads and really explore the differences in driving modes and the different competition modes.
Yes the Z06 looks more raw but the Stingray looks more sleek and I love the hour glass shape of the mid section (I have no rocker panels).
Red calipers behind the black rims is a must and also the carbon flash mirrors and rear spoiler.
I fixed the chrome grill below and added an ACS splitter up front which looks much better than Z06 or GS stock parts. Although I would like to have the Z06 grill but it is quite expensive with the cameras.
I missed a gear in my M7 like twice in the beginning. I don't find the transmission vague at all. I also stick mostly to 1-6 gears as I do little freeway driving. There are aftermarket short shift ,its for the C7 that might help with any vagueness some of you are experiencing.
EDIT. Wow did not realize how old this thread was..
Would love GM to do a vertical gate manual shifter anyone remember those? no missed shifts ever
no toploader trans has been easier to slam 2/3 than a muncie
