Real dumb question ...when I check the oil..why is it one side of stick reads full to top of hash marks ...and the other side reads less than half the way up on the hash marks ? This dip stick is one bad design ... IMO only one side should have hash marks for reading level ..

I just posted the same thread on this. Mine does the same thing and I don't want to overfill it but I don't want it low either. Did it work spinning it around? thanks
The answer is that neither side is exactly correct.
I think the difference in the readings is because the dipstick goes in at an angle... Therefore, the actually level is half way between the high and low readings.
Since I do not want to overfill, I usually pull it straight out and go by the higher reading.
NOTE: by rotating the dipstick, all you are doing is making it read the higher level all the way around.
