When I plug in my iPhone to use the navigation option I can not hear the voice directions. If I turn up the radio real load then the voice comes through but the radio is blasting
I have the volume up on the iPhone. Is there any control in the 'setting' that will control the volume? I called onStar but they were no help
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

This gives me hope because I have the opposite problem. If I have music on a little too low the voice navigation is too loud! There must be a setting on the phone or within the car play app....with this great forum I bet someone has the answer to unlock this mystery!
As far as I know there's no way to independently control radio and CarPlay volumes. Sometimes I can hear the navigation voice just fine but most of the time it's too low. I don't know if it's a GM problem or an Apple problem. This is one of the reasons why I finally installed the OEM navi module.
You'll notice that if you adjust volume using radio volume **** or the steering wheel volume controls WHILE voice feedback is being given, you can set it independent of radio volume. It will actually show you two different volume level bars on the screen (two different shades of red). I'm not aware of another way to adjust them independently but make sure your phone is not on mute and volume all the way up as well.

That's one of the first things I did and when the radio came back on it blasted me out of the car. This volume glitch seems to be inconsistent as to when it happens.
Okay, sorry that didn't help I've had my '16 for over a year now and this has always worked this way. Just to be sure I was clear; You have to adjust only while the iPhone is actually giving feedback, in other words while Siri is talking. When you do that, it adjusts voice feedback volume only and not the radio. You'll see the voice feedback volume level overlaid with the radio volume at bottom of infotainment.
Yep, that's exactly how I'm doing it. When the radio is at its normal level, Siri will kick in with its navi directions at a low volume. I'll adjust it to a normal level while it's giving its instructions. When it's done and goes back to radio, that volume has also been boosted to a higher level and is way too loud. If it's working for you, there must be an inconsistency the way GM implements CarPlay and I hope it gets fixed in a future software update.

Mister Big,
Keep trying what JoeCT suggested. You might also try a hard reboot of your iPhone (disconnecting it from the infotainment system first). I had the same problem as you. Took a couple of attempts to get it to work. Try starting Nav instruction through Apple Maps (sometimes it speaks longer than Siri) in order for your volume adjustment to work/catch.
Also, which version of iOS are you running? the earlier versions of 9.x had some issues with CarPlay which were all(mostly) resolved by 9.3.x) Don't know how it works with iOS 10 as I downgraded after a few days.

Good luck, just give it a few more tries...
I'll be damned... I started this thread and today the Carpay volume worked great. I have good volume on the CarPlay and the radio volume decreases when the CarPlay comes on. Go figure.
Thanks

Yep, that's the problem... sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
