i have c7 2016 m7.
i like to ask if i driving in the city traffic in eco mode
is the engine in v4 or v8.
thank you alon.
Well, it depends... Probably in V8 in the city, but once you get up to around 30 or 40 in 4th gear, it will switch to V4 mode. There is an indicator on the dash to tell you which mode you're in.

Yep, with an M7 the only time it will go into 4 cylinder mode is when you put it in ECO Mode. It will indicate when it is in that mode in the display. Around town, where you're going slow and accelerating etc it will stay in 8 cylinder mode.
I've had my C7 M7 for 3 years and only used ECO Mode 2 or 3 times to see what mpg improvment I got on the highway. It was minimal ~2 to 3 mpg. Would never use in around town. That is the advantage of the M7 vs an automatic where it will go into V4 in all Modes! To Each His Own.
M7 in Eco starts using V4 mode around ~23 mph and 3rd gear or higher. I don't use eco around town or when driving aggressively, but use it all the time on the highway. It will go to V4 even at 1k RPMs in 7th, so I don't run 7th unless I'm going at least 65 MPH.
That said, in mixed driving, my car has achieved a 400 mile best average of 29.3 MPG. I think it has done as much as 36.5 in the 50 mi best average too. If the eco mode kills your engine, I'm guess I'm gonna find out. 9300 miles and I'd guess it's probably spent 20% of that in eco mode.

The control button on the right side of the steering wheel lets you display that info, along with miles of travel remaining.
Press the left side of that button, and a list will appear toward the left of the gauges.
Scroll up and choose the top one - info, and select OK.
Then you might have to scroll through the info options to get to the display you want.
Although it may seem a little counter-intuitive, the car stays in V8 mode when you're stopped or going very slowly (unlike a hybrid). That's to provide for maximum acceleration to get up to a normal "cruising speed". Then it will want to try to go into V4 mode (doesn't need many horses to maintain the speed). You can sometimes see it switch to V8 mode even when you're going up a very slight grade. Almost like cruise control, in a way.
