Thought I share my experience. While driving home tonight I noticed a dune buggy / kit car. It was a very unusual type of vehicle on the highway. It had exposed wheels and a pretty much an open cockpit frame. Pretty cool I thought. It was dark so I couldn't see if it had fenders over the wheels or not. I got beside him briefly to get a better look and then ended up following him.
Noticed a big crack in my windshield while pulling in the garage... closer examination looks like a rock hit.
That's the last time I follow a dune buggy or similar vehicle!
I'm totally bummed!!

Lots of big tired Jeeps and off road parks around here, not to mention lots of new construction with gravel trucks all over so its like a minefield on the highway. Already have two rock craters on my C7, '16 truck has a few too. Knock on wood no cracks, yet.
I try to stay far away from the Jeeps with the big tires, they can hold some pretty good size rocks
Sorry for you trouble....earlier this year the same thing happened to me....I had Corvette Museum Insurance....called them...they said pick out a glass company and get it replaced....I called around to the local chevy dealers to see who they used and then call that glass company...they ordered the windshield and when it came in I watched them replace my cracked one.....took about 45 mins and as good as new. But like you I was BUMMED when it happened....

Sorry for the problem.
The month I got my C7, October 2013 was on the interstate along side of and 18 wheeler and heard a rock hit the windshield. I was luckly it hit below the passenger side wiper. Small pit that I filled with a plastic repair kit and it has been fine, can't really see it now. I am paranoid about riding behind or next to 18 wheelers! About the only time I exceed 7 mph over the speed limit is when quickly pass one. I limit my exposure time to the truck and radar!
The roads in central Ohio are a war zone - lots of rocks and other garbage flying everywhere. There is a lot of new construction and repaving plus local road maintenance totally sucks. There are also many lifted trucks with mudder tires, so it a miracle to go a month without some kind of road debris damage.
Every vehicle that I have owned for years has eventually suffered windshield damage and my truck has taken 3 serious hits in 5 years.
Sorry that happened to your beautiful Vette. I hope that the repair turns out fine.

Don't know where you live, but in FL if your windshield is cracked it can be replaced at no cost to you. The windshields in the C-7's appear to be softer than the C-6 windshields. Every time I take a long road trip I notice some pits in the windshield.

GM parts ONLY!!!!!!!!
Did Safelite, specified GM parts. Long story short, the glass guy gave me 2 defective windshields, both not GM. Finally went on my own and ordered one from my dealer. All set.
The first two? They had bubbles in the laminat. He tried to minimize the defect. Sorry, only GM trademarks.

Sorry to hear...
I've learned the hard way about vehicles like that without mud flaps.
My strategy is back off or pass, don't follow.

Sorry to hear about the windshield damage. Unfortunately, if you drive the car, there is always a chance of that happening. Hope you get it fixed soon and the company does a great job.
I learned the hard way following a McLaren 570S after leaving a gravel road = cracked windshield... 250 feet is too close because those Pirelli P ZERO CORSA 285/35ZR20 are sticky rock guns that sling bullets that kill windshields!
Got me in about a 60 second span in four spots causing three massive cracks.
Actually, even the Factory Z51 tires on our cars toss lots of rocks too.
Anyway, my rule of thumb is gauge how much tire on the car in front of you is showing. If it's pushing near half the tire height or more then keep your distance. Some little compact car that doesn't toss rocks will come along and you can follow that around the rock throwers. Let someone else take the hit.
For passing trucks, I put my left tires on the yellow line as I go around em in the passing lane. Keeps me out of their wake a little bit more.
