If you mean text messages received on your phone I would think you could delete them on your phone, perhaps easier. For me the default text message service sucked as I didn't use it on the phone - I used Google's Hangouts and those messages never appeared. I occasionally got some text messages, usually because Google Voice would send me text transcriptions and I think that was picked up by the default text app on the phone - the one I never use. Deleting the text messages in the car is painful because the only way I saw to do that was to go to each message and delete them individually. You couldn't delete more than one at a time, nor could you tap some sort of clear all button.
Now I use Android Auto which delivers my Hangouts messages just fine and I can manage them on my desktop or phone.
