Default Autolock question

For reasons I won't get into on this thread, I had a 2016 Stingray and I now have a 2016 Z06. It's a minor issue to be sure, but it's late at night here and I'm bored. . In the Stingray, if I popped the trunk from inside the car, then exited hitting the delayed autolock button, when I closed the door, nothing happened until I actually closed the trunk at which time the doors would lock and the horn would sound. With the Z06, if I pop the trunk, get out, hit the delayed autolock button and close the door, the doors lock and the horn sounds before I close the trunk. I tried looking at the manual to see if there is a setting for that but wasn't able to find anything about it. Anyone else run into this? As I said, it's not a big issue and I just go ahead and re-lock the car with the key fob when I'm finished in the trunk but it is different between the two cars.

No one else have this issue? (I know, I know. There are a lot of other far more important issues to obsess about other than autolock!)

Go to your "settings" menu on the Infotainment screen and under "vehicle" go to "passive door lock" press it until a check mark is posted on the "ON" setting and now you are set to walk away and the car locks by itself.

However, it it does not work, then go back to the same "vehicle" settings and check to see if "Anti-lock out" is set to "ON". If so, you must set it to "OFF" so it will allow the doors to lock automatically once the door is closed and the fob is not detected.

I have the passive lock enabled on my Coupe and if I have the rear hatch cracked open and walk away it won't lock until the hatch is closed.

That's the way it was on my Stingray but on the Z06, the car locks when I close the doors even though the hatch is open. That is what I am trying to address.

Did you post in the Z06 sub forum...not many on this side with Z06 knowledge. The guys/gals over there have owned Stingrays and might be able to answer your question.

I hadn't considered that folks tend to follow only one sub forum. As you can see from the number of posts I have, I'm a relative neophyte here. Hopefully I'll figure out how to navigate the forum better as time and helpful assistance such as yours come along. I'll post in the Z06 sub forum and see if that elicits any further clarification.

Speaking of which, what is the attraction of auto-lock?

Auto-unlock is convenient because you always have the key fob on your person when returning to a locked car, but I find auto-lock to be a nuisance. Auto-lock is permanently turned off on my cars.

When my vehicles are parked at home, I often find reasons to return to the cars w/o having my key fob. It's so simple to press the fob button when I actually want it locked.

I drive in Sport, you may drive in Tour or Track. I may have a horn signal when locking the car and you may choose blinking lights, etc, etc, etc.. It's a matter of preferences, really. That's why Chevrolet gave us choices.

Oh, I get that. Just wondered why those who choose to use it do, as opposed to just pressing a little button when leaving the car? I wonder how many people who use auto-lock actually go back to check to see if it's really locked?

It just seems silly to me.

I use it. ...and early on I often went back w/o the fob to check it.

My fob goes in my pocket and stays there, no need to dig it out to lock the car. Simple as that.

Yeah, I get that too.

I used it when the first keyless systems debuted, but I got so annoyed going back into the house to pick up the fob, when all I wanted to do was retrieve my sunglasses or whatever I'd left in the car, that I banned it forever.

It's a bit of a personal pet peeve of mine and just wondered if anyone else shared it.

Simple. I don't have to remember to lock my car. I play guitar. Often I drive to a park, get my guitar and stand out of the back and I start walking off to the park bench. Without auto-lock I have to fumble in my pocket for the keys and hit the lock button. That's hard to do when you are carrying a guitar, music stand, tablet and a cooler filled with beer.

It's even simpler not to have to press a button, don't cha think?

It's simple, and even you admit it. You said "Auto-unlock is convenient because you always have the key fob on your person when returning to a locked car". I merely consider my car locked at all times. So it's natural for me to think if I'm going to the garage and going in my car well then it's locked so I need to at least put my keys in my pocket.

For me, these things are essential - I need my keys to get in my apartment and to get in my car. Additionally I have a little rubber thing that is on my keychain that holds 2 guitar picks. I'm a guitarist. Picks are essential! So if I'm not in my apartment I always have my keys. Similarly my wallet - has my money, credit cards, and this is essential, a card I need to swipe to get into my apartment community. So if I'm not at home I need my wallet too. Finally, my phone - we all live by our phones these days - hell I use mine whenever driving for Android Auto.

So those 3 things are essential for me and whenever I'm leaving my apartment I check to make sure I have at least those 3 things. Thus I always have my key fob on me and can always approach my vette and expect it to open. There's no reason to push a fob button to lock the car and there's no reason to blink lights or honk horns. The system works well as designed for me.

Oh and just tonight, as I parked and left my car it beeped at me saying I left my fob in the car. It had fallen out of my shorts. System works great!

Uh, the nuisance is that I often don't have the fob when I go back to retrieve something from the car when it's parked in my very secure home and work garages.

I know the system works great, in fact, too great. I just don't want a fob in my pocket all the time, and I don't want my car locked all the time. I'll just leave auto-lock off and press the button when I do want it locked.

It was just a curiosity I had. I get it that some people like it.

I submit to you that if you change your viewpoint to "whenever I'm not in my car - it's locked" you'd always have your keys. I get it, in your house, in your own garage you feel safe. Look I've lived in apartments all my life so I'm always at a new place. And keys are always a necessity to me. But another benefit of auto-lock, perhaps one you're not considering, if that if you bop into a 7-11 to get something, dang your car is outside and it's locked. Even if the line is longer than you thought it would be and if you thought you'd just bop into the 7-11 and pick up a coke. You might be able to hit the button to lock it or you might now, depending on distance... In my scenario I know my car is locked.

Personally, I would not go out of my house (apartment) nor into the garage (my garage is not attached) without my keys - period.

Hopefully I've given you insight into my mindset.

I prefer to keep things simple. If I want to lock the car, I'll do it the same way I do all my others, with the Fob.

A fun option. But I too went back to just using my key. Really liked the autolock away from the house, but not so much at home . . . Might revisit when I quit finding reasons to go out in the garage and tweak something.

Much simpler for those of us that have locked garages to have access to the C7 without having to retrieve the fob. For those that need it, auto-lock is great; me, not so much.

Nobody needs auto lock - it's a convenience. And you don't have to retrieve your fob if it's already in your pocket. Living in an apartment, my garage is not attached to my apartment - in fact it's a bit of a walk. So if I'm going to the garage I'm leaving my apartment. When I leave my apartment I lock it. To lock it I need my keys - ergo I have my fob.

I think this topic has been beaten to death like too many topics here, and I'm now sorry I brought it up.

Post #5 says it well, it's nice to have options.

For those living in detached houses w/ garages, it's often a nuisance. For an apartment dweller or someone who has to always park outside, it's can be a convenience.

I think everyone get's it.
