Default Question about "The Wave"

I often read references to "The Wave" from folks here on the forum. Was wondering if it was like some sort of secret handshake, or just your typical friendly hello?

The reason I ask is because I had a Vette pass me in the opposite direction, and he put his arm out and down, like he was giving me some sort of a "low five" greeting. I just waved back in the typical fashion.

Sorry to sound stupid. Just call me "Clueless in KY".

That person gave you the Harley-Davidson "wave." There is no standard Corvette "wave." It's usually just brief hand-up gesture, peace-sign, etc. Any old "wave" will do.

How you wave does not matter, just wave.

Um, those people were waving out of C6s. Is there an instructional video on how to wave from a C7?

Palm down, hand flat is a common gesture for radar ahead in these parts...

I usually just generic wave. Maybe stick my hand above the windshield if the vert is down. The Harley wave is too cool, and I'm just not that talented.

I use the "V" gesture. I caught 2 other C7s off guard this morning. Now if it is one of my close friends that has a Vette the get they thumbs down

Still learning the protocol (LOL). Running 100% on responses from other Vettes, but seems to vary a little:
Most just wave
Earlier models give the peace sign.
Late models might use the optional headlight flash

What surprised me was getting so many of the Harley Waves from the group motorcycle rides I see . . .

Motorcyclists and drivers of sports cars have a vested interest in alerting each other to radar and laser. It's either the palm down pushing motion, or several quick taps on the helmet.

And, most riders wave to each other, especially on the open road. It's not a "Harley wave," but a riders' wave.

Yes, it's like the Corvette is the "official car of Harley-Davidson. It's been that way for years. Foreign sports cars sometimes get a different hand gesture.

Most riders wave to each other; it's an affirmation of being on the open road, I believe.

Of course not all do regardless of the brand they are riding. It's interesting. I certainly don't need my ego affirmed by having some stranger wave at me-that's pretty weak IMHO. Nevertheless, I do wave to celebrate the bond that all riders have, not just HD riders.

There's another particular gesture that's more common around these parts ... LOL.

The '16 Z06 is my first Corvette. Drove it home from the dealership almost 2 months ago.

I rode motorcycles for the better part of 30 years, so 'the wave' was always a motorcycle thing to me. Haven't ridden in 4+ years since the 'incident'.

I was dumbfounded two days ago when someone in a C7 passed me going the other direction and he gave me the ole wave (V/peace sign). It wasn't until I was about 1/4 mile down the road did it dawn on me that Vette owners might do the same thing ... LOL.

If the weather is reasonably decent driving a Vert top down i just stick my hand straight up. Top up I wave by the drivers window.

As I live on a large lake and its a good ride for the bike guys many times we exchange 'salutes"

Just came back from a 5 hour leaf peep top down and saw 7 other Vettes (3 were C7s) and quite a few motor cycles. Vettes and Harley's (or Harley look lookalikes) get along well, do not get many waves from the other kinds of bikes much.

How about a "C" for Corvette (or Chevy)?

I always get the wave if they're looking. I also always wave... Even when in my Audi or Jeep.
