We had a good time....
Left on vacation on 9-26 and just got back 10-7. We are moving down to Lake Havasu City, AZ and went down to look at houses. I will say that you get a lot of house down there for the money. And the bonus is that the houses we were looking at had "HUGE" garages. All that we looked at had double garages With RV garages attached and were deep. I mean deep as in anywhere between 32 and 48 ft long! Some garages are actually a tunnel.
We went down to AZ via I-5 mostly and cut over at Bakersfield CA to AZ. 1240 miles from Portland. Stayed in AZ a few days and then took a touring route home from Lake Havasu to Flagstaff AZ so we could visit the beauty of Sedona AZ a few miles south of Flaggstaff. It got down to 33 degrees in Flagstaff that early morning. Tried to detail the car a little bit and the detail spay just froze to the surface.
The best part of the route we took was from Flagstaff to Moab, UT. 320 miles of pure bliss. Most fun I have had so far driving the car. There was a lot of two lane highways with 65 MPH speed limit. We didn't think we would like that, but it doesn't get any better than this as far as we are concerned, and I will tell you why.
Scenery is number one. Number two is when we had the "opportunity" to pass vehicles. Oh yeah, we passed one, two at a time. And we would pass trucks with 3 trailers and all sorts of different rigs. Here is a typical example:
We would sometimes reach speeds up to, should I dare say, 115 MPH before I let up and pulled in. Now if you are with me so far, we pulled into to fill it up and get rid of some coffee. As I am buying a pack of chewing gum an LEO comes into the store and says. "Is the owner of the dark red Corvette with Oregon Plates in here?" I said, yeah, thats me." He comes over and says "that is the most beautiful car I believe I have ever seen, and when I saw you pull in front after passing that truck it looked like a UFO coming at me. Just gorgeous." So we talked a little while and I showed him the car and went through the normal routine of explaining a few things about the car. He thanked me for taking the time showing him the car, etc. After all that was done and said. He said with a smile in his voice, "You know, you could let up off the gas a little when get around the vehicle you are passing. You might end up going over a hundred miles an hour and not even notice it in a Corvette. Please just take it a little easier. I would really appreciate it." We nodded at each other and parted our separate ways. I think my heart rate was down to almost normal at this point in time and off we went down the road. My wife said "this really is the land of opportunity isn't it?. Let's go find some cars to pass. Yahoo!"
Here is one picture I took that pretty much sums up the trip for us.

Nice write up !!!! Sounds like a great trip.
Sure wish I had such oversized garages. You can never have too much garage.

Nice pics.
I hope you have spent some time in LH during the summer.
Otherwise, you will be in for a rude awakening next year.
We Oregonians tend to melt in heat like their's...

Joe, we'll miss you up here. When are you moving?
My son lives in Maricopa...yes, it is possible to get up to some pretty good speeds out there. Not as fast as the interior of Nevada, but almost!

Shhhh don't tell anyone about the area. The wrong kind of Californians might start moving.
My dad bought a house there in 2010. My folks are there almost two weeks a month. He keeps his 98' vert and 01' coupe in the garage there year round.
