How-To remove OnStar the RIGHT way
Their are a bunch of post that say just remove fuse #27 to disable onstar. That will NOT work if you want to keep bluetooth, the Mic working, and compass. Also keep in mind onstar does have a backup power module connected to it....
Do at your own risk I am not responsible for any damage to your vehicle.
For those who will post why? - Simple cause I can and want to. Now on to the fun stuff!
Credit to the Camaro boards they have this figured out and its the same for the C7. Photos and some content is credit to them.
Step one: Remove fuse #27 from the rear compartment fuse
block.
Step Two: Remove the plastic trim under the dash on the Pass side.
You will see the onstar module it looks like this....
Step Three: Once you remove the module, there are 4 torx screws holding the plastic portion to the metal. Remove these and lift off the plastic portion.
Step Four: The main board simply lifts off the radio daughter board. Put this somewhere for now.
Step Five:The daughter board has the same torx screws. Remove these and put the radio board in a static bag somewhere so the process can be reversed if needed.
Step Six:Put main board back on and the black cover back. Screw the 4 torx screws back in and reinstall everything in the reverse order. Tape the antenna cables so they don't move around and vibrate.
After all connectors are plugged in. Reinstall the fuse and check your mirror after turning the car on. It should take about 30 seconds or so if onstar was previously connected ok before it realizes there is no connection. Mirror should look like below.
You can simply disconnect the antennas and it will not have the strength to broadcast across any real range. However, it IS still broadcasting and in some big cities or area with strong coverage it may still jump on the network. Doing it this way ensures no way no how it can connect back to the mothership....

Then you don't have to worry about doing this mod. Its a how-to, not a poll or reason post. Your reasons are yours alone.

Worry? Hardly. Couldn't care less about others paranoia, just don't see any reason to broadcast it.
And this is a public forum btw, so don't get your knickers in a knot just because someone posts something you don't like.

I didn't ASK if you have a reason, so means I DON'T care. It's an FYI if you want to great, you don't cool. Makes me no difference. But please don't troll my How-to, just because YOU don't see a reason.
We are all happy for you that you don't see one. Have a great life!

Funny though how some folks take offense to even the least little bit of criticism lately....

Just because it is a "public" forum doesn't mean it requires your 2 cents given the topic and its content. This is meant to be helpful. Maybe not to you but to someone else it is.
There is a place and time for everything public or not, create your own thread on why you think we are all idiots for disabling onstar. Your remarks would be 100% well within topic and scope.
If you want to contribute to THE HOW-TO with something other than your internet public opinion, please do.
Thank you.
