Default Your courtesy delivery experience?

I'd love to hear everyone's experiences with doing a Courtesy Delivery. The good, the bad and the ugly. I'm only a few days away from that final decision to order with one of the big guys and have it courtesy delivered.

What should I have the Courtesy Dealer agree to before hand?

What if it comes in damaged?

The initial clean up of the car.... (I doubt they will have a true professional detailer do the exterior wash. And unfortunately, I notice every micro-scratch and swirl.) How did you all handle this when yours arrived?

I recently saw a photo of a truckload of vettes. They were all fully covered in white shrink wrap. Hopefully that stays on until my dealer takes delivery?

Any pointers, suggestions or guidance will be appreciated. This will be my first time ordering a Vette. It will be a Velocity Yellow GS.

Thank you all!

For $900, the dealer should at least take you out to a nice dinner first, and use plenty of lube.

They also get at least $400 for the pdi/setup, so they're trying to rationalize similar income to selling you a car themselves.

Car was purchsed through Macmulkin. My cd was $200 and they even declined the $200. I still gave the guy the money as my car was clean and unmolested at 2 mi. The dealer is a somewhat smaller rural dealer that doesn't sell Vettes. I was worried how it might go down, but they were great. For others, maybe a non Vette selling dealer might actually be a better alternative because you don't get the same attitude that you might get from a dealer that sells Vettes and didn't get to make the sale themselves. Of course a non Vette dealer could be bad if they screw up the pdi and setup.

Add: I owned the car a week before I saw it, so I guess it was a leap of faith. Delivery day I spent about 20 minutes closely examining the car. Looked good so I drove it home. I didn't over think it, which is odd for me. Others here will chime in with an insane OCD checklist that would take an afternoon to go through. I figured as long as it was cosmetically good I'd worry about mechanicals later. There is a warranty after all. So far 1.5 years later, it's been a great car.

I agree on the dinner! There aren't many options out here. I fit the bill for the insane OCD checklist.... it's a curse really.

I found one dealer who will accept the delivery (for the outrageous amount of $900, sadly). We only have 3 dealers to choose from out here.

What should I have the Courtesy Dealer agree to before hand? Hawaii sells less Vettes per capita than any other state, so it's not an every day delivery out here.

What kind of prices to the dealers charge for a Corvette in Hawaii? Do they give any discounts?

I have had two courtesy deliveries...in North Carolina...both around $300 to 350...

Both did a fine job...no complaints other than one tried to put a dealer sticker on my new GS...

Just inspect the hell of the car...look at the fit and finish...ask for help with the settings (if needed)...make 100% sure all the dealer installed options are completed and done to your liking...

900$ is definitely OUTRAGEOUS!...but they are getting away with it.

You should be fine...but don't hurry the acceptance...take your time!

Perfect experience for me. $200 from a Missouri selling dealer to a Texas receiving/delivery dealer.

Dealer here in FL (Tom Gibbs) wanted $1K for a courtesy delivery. He "justified" that cost by telling me he is an expert when it comes to Corvettes.

The prices here are bit higher overall.

Mine sucked, my car was scuffed and scratched, Classic Chevrolet of Houston. They even tried to keep my sill plates saying I didn't need them.

The first one I visited was rude, lied to me and never called back with a price for my custom build (That one had the worst ratings). The second one told me flat out, the build price is it. No discounts. I told him I was eligible for the GM military discount. He was supposedly their corvette specialist, yet he acted like he had never heard of how you could build it online and show your military pricing. He said he had been there for 20 years. And was their top salesman. So that tells me he's a liar. At the last dealership, I sat down with the sales person and we built out the car that I wanted. The sales person was very nice and very excited that I was looking to purchase a Vette. the general manager was not there to do any pricing, so they were supposed to call me back in two days. They assured me that they would get me a great price as they have a special program for military discounts. Eight days later and I had still not received a return call. I finally called them and was given a bogus excuse their phone lines went down and they lost all of their contact information. Yet I was still not given a price. About another week goes by and I received a voicemail message. No price given, but I was told they did not get an allocation for that week. But it's funny, they made it a point to say they finally got in their first new grand sport. The salesman tried to persuade me to come take a look at that one. Imagine that. Despite knowing it was not what I want. I was 100% crystal clear on the color and the options that I wanted. Needless to say, I have not bothered to call them back.
Wow if it is that bad buying one what will the service work be like?

Considering the huge savings you will get by going with a forum dealer $900 isn't much compared to paying MSRP.

Not good. This was the first time I've interacted with a GM dealership and the first time I've ever used courtesy delivery on a car. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm hoping the car will make me forget about that over time.

Car arrived at the courtesy dealer and sat there for over 2 days before starting prep because the salesman I was doing the courtesy delivery with happened to have those 2 days off. Couldn't he ask someone else to fill in for him? Especially since he's not a tech that's actually doing the PDI. Whatever, what's two more days of waiting.

I already had OnStar enabled before I picked up the car, so I could look at some data on the car. I noticed the car added 3 miles since the car arrived at the dealer. Do they need to do 3 miles for the PDI? I'm suspecting someone took it for a short joy ride.

When I actually go pick up the car, I noticed they didn't follow the PDI checklist at all. The checklist says not to remove any of the covers (doors, seats, etc.) before the customer arrives. There were some small chips on the driver door edge. There's a tiny stain on the door interior leather. There were no covers on the car when I got there. The front splitter and side skirts were also not installed. When I got home, I also noticed the brake cooling ducts were sitting in the trunk and not installed as part of the PDI. When I started the car, the DIC immediately gave me a warning of low washer fluid.

I asked the salesman about the missing splitter and side skirts. He questions if I ordered them with the car, because as he put it, if it came with the car, their tech would have installed it. I told him they're standard on the GS. He said he can't know what comes with a car or not because since I didn't buy the car from them, he doesn't have an invoice of what parts should be on the car. I said I can pull up the invoice on my phone, at which point he said he could look up what's standard or not on the GS on his computer. Now he calls the service department to see if they have the parts. Turns out they have them sitting there with my VIN attached. But since it was Fri and the tech was already out, I'd have to return on Mon to get the installed.

Then it came to payment. He says the courtesy delivery fee was $550. When I ordered the car, the purchasing dealer said it would be $450. He said I must have been confused because they charge $450 for regular Stingrays, but $550 for GS and Z06. Really, it takes $100 more work to fill out DMV papers for a GS/Z06? He then says if I can prove that I was quoted $450, he'll accept that. I pull up the email from my purchasing dealer (thank goodness for smartphones) that quoted $450 and he accepted it. While he was filling out the DMV paperwork, he asked me why I chose to purchase the car from an out of state dealer instead of them.

When I bring the car in on Mon to get the uninstalled parts installed, I get told I have priority and they'll get it done immediately. After waiting for a bit over 2 hours, guy comes to me and says they brought the car up and off the lift 3 times because they couldn't figure out which side skirts go on the car. They eventually figured it out and I finally get to go home with my complete car.

I haven't spent too much time in the car since then, but it's been problem free so far. Good luck with your purchase.

That's very true. It's just the principle of it that bothers me.
