New member here. Read through this whole thread and mostly found people arguing which car is best. I'm leaning towards a GS. I track my current M3 about 2-3 times a year, will do the same with the Vette. Have no problems with the Z06, but I'm afraid I'll get arrested as I have a hard time with the speed limit at 330hp. Anyway, anyone have any "must-have" options? And does anyone know if the ground effects packages are looks or actually help performance? Thanks!

^The GS is quick (0-60 3.6 or 3.7, 117+ 1/4). Sure the Z06 is quicker, but how to use the extra power??? Maybe some can, if you track it regularly or run the risk on the street. I couldn't justify it at $14K more.

I could justify the C7Z easier than I could with the C6Z, as the C6Z had only 69 more hp than the C6GS.
And when I was comparison shopping insurance prices, the GS cost less. For me anyways.

I do believe that I, and many others would certainly be plenty happy with the C7GS.
The C7Z would be great to have. No argument there.

Aero is functional and looks cool.

MUST-HAVE:
Heads-Up Display

Also, not a must-have, but if you track your car, I highly recommend the Z07 package. The Carbon Ceramic brakes are much more resistant to fade, the Cup2 tires are super sticky. But its pricey...

Hey! If you haven't been arrested you haven't had a good time! Just kidding. You'll love your GS. If you won't be racing get the ground effects for the looks if you like that look. Good luck. And must have's are personal preference.

If you can afford it buy the fastest you can get and don't look back.

I can "afford" whatever I want. Just unsure if the extra HP will be a help or a hindrance on a daily basis. The cost is pretty close if you look at 2016 Z06 and new GS. Anyone know if the ceramic brakes are durable on the track. I know they perform well, but very expensive to replace if that happens often.

From my understanding they are very durable. My friend got 40K out of his and drives the bjesus out of it. Look at it this way. Having 460 HP is extra compared to what you really need. Its a question of what you want. None of us "need" all this HP. But the final solution is what you really "want". I never saw a tombstone with the inscription: "I wish I would have had less HP".

My must haves are the M7, HUD, mag ride, and PDR. A 2LT GS has everything but the PDR standard. I figure if I run race pads and R-comps I'll have most of the performance of the Z07 package.

Lots of them could read, "I should have had less HP."

The 2016 Z06/Z07 manual is like BUTTER. Shifts super smooth and accurate, clutch is perfect. There is NOTHING challenging about it. Stop and go traffic either. You either can drive a manual or can't. If you can, this car will blow you away.
This is what I was told, OK? Just deal with it.

If the Z06 was way more, it would be an easy choice. Problem is that a GS with Z07 is really close to Z06 price especially if you go 2016. Agree that HUD is a necessity, Z07 is questionable. Are those cup tires ok on the street or am I gonna have to buy a street set.

The cups are fine on the street. What you have to figure out is, what you'll get more use out of the Z06's extra 190 HP ($6,000 more) or the better handling and braking of the GS/Z07.

Appreciate everyone's help. I'm driving a 2003 M3, so either will be a technology and HP gain. Would everyone recommend Z07 package on the Z06 as well?

what do u want to do with it. Track now and again. Mostly street. Z06 2Lt at a Minn.07pkg. Just Ceramic brakes really. Cheaper to do your self. For what Factory charges. But then again just do performance pads. Like EBC. Stop a lot better.
Also Ceramic brakes Real Dusty. So something to think about. You'll be cleaning those wheels daily.

You answered your own ?. D.D. so why would you want and 07 package. Ceramic brakes are way too expensive for daily driver. And you will be cleaning your wheels from the dust all the time. Later if you wish you can add some caramel brakes to your car cheaper than you would pay the factory to put them on. After you get her broken in you can add brake pads you can stop a lot better and I think you'll be happy with them at the track.
Going from an M3 to A Z06 is a big step up
