Got a new set don't want to ruin my old ones. How do I remove my center caps?

Put a piece of tape on the end of a small screw driver to protect the caps and carefully pry them off..

Only use dental floss. Wrap it around the cap and cross the 2 ends and pull. It comes right off with little effort and no mars on the cap.

Take the wheel off and lightly tap the back side of it with a rubber hammer handle.

I am not understanding how you wrap the dental floss or insert it through the cap?

You don't insert it through the cap. Just insert it under the edge of the cap 1/2 or 3/4 way around and gently pull it toward you. It's not much different than inserting floss in those tight tooth gaps.
I just changed all 4 wheels and tires, swapping my summers for all seasons, and the lightest finger push from behind also pops the caps out. Thus, you won't have to pull hard on the floss.

Use a plastic gift or credit card. Insert one corner and work your way around the cap and it will come out. Very easy and safe.

I just went out and popped one off with dental floss. push the floss in with your finger nail and pry out ever so slightly as you slide the floss in. pull it to mid center, tie a knot and pull. Off comes the cap. I also did it with an old credit card. I also got it off using the right twin prong side of this trim tool.

BTW, plastic trim tools such as pictured above are very handy to have. They don't scratch paint if you're gentle, and I use them for all kinds of little tasks other than car stuff. An entire set of different shapes and sizes is available on Amazon for $6.

I tried floss but it broke every time, probably a matter of my habit of buying cheap floss. I use 8-10# fishing line now which works fine and never breaks. I shove it in the gaps with a toothpick.
