I scared a guy today on the way to the firehouse (polling place).
I was following him in his older (early '90s PU, and some stuff started falling off (from under) the truck. I zigged and zagged correctly, today. I had warning, and I don't ever tailgate. He pulled over, and so did I to see if he needed any help. Neighborly rural courtesy.
He took one look at the right side of my car, got all wide-eyed and manic.
I assured him that he didn't cause this, and explained about the deer strike on Sunday. I felt sorry for him. It never occurred to me that I might freak someone out in this situation.
It did give me a bit of a chuckle afterward, though.
Seems like I've been seeing a higher number of dead deer on the side of the road. Is there a population issue that needs to be addressed? In the span of about 7 months, my dad hit a deer not only with his C7, but also his Ford Flex. I was in the car both times. Deer like to pop out at the last millisecond, which can make for stressful night driving around here..
Yeah this time of year is loaded with deer! I've seen deadly wrecks and totaled cars due to deer strikes. Glad to see everyone is ok with minimal injuries and minimal damage to the car. It sucks to get even a tiny scratch, never mind that damage, but I'm sure you will have it fixed soon and it will look as good as new.
I'm sure glad you guys are (relatively) okay. The car can be fixed and I hope you both are on the road soon.
Driving in eastern Oregon two weeks ago, I saw the biggest mule deer I've ever seen. Huge rack of antler, he stood in the middle of the road letting me know he was in charge. I'm sure had I hit him my car would have been destroyed and I would have been hurt, or worse.
Fortunately, the car is driveable, but it takes a very high level of spatial and situational awareness with the side mirror gone. It's finally turned cool here, bit I'm still driving with the top down when I can to avoid the massive blind spot.
I took it in for the estimate yesterday, and will be getting it fixed week after next. New door and mirror, blend the front and rear quarter panels. I need a new interior door panel, but I'm leary of replacing it due to concerns that the leather won't match exactly which would be more noticeable than a very minor scuff which seemed to be lessening every time I rub it.

Glad you are getting it fixed. How's the hand?
I was riding my motorcycle out in Colorado when a rider in front of me hit a deer at about 55. I saw the whole thing. The deer bounded out of some low brush on the side of the road. Steve (my buddy) t-boned him.
The deer flew over the bike (BMW K1200RS)and showered me and my riding partner with deer guts. Steve stayed upright and coasted to a stop if you can believe it...
The bike was totaled, as you might imagine.
I'm just glad you guys are alright. Many people are killed yearly in deer v car collisions.. Let's all be careful out there....
Sorry to hear this, and it's one of my biggest concerns this time of year (mating season). I've had many close encounters like yours, and it's too often completely unavoidable. They frequently appear out of nowhere in a flash.
Our house is surrounded by forest and fields, and I'm seeing bucks chasing does (a deer, a female deer) all hours of the day and night.
Thanks, Foosh, now I've got that stupid song in my head.

Daffy, deer have no more natural predators, at least in many parts of the US. Their populations are exploding, especially IN small towns where people feed them because they are "cute." This is particularly dangerous-not many people think of deer while driving down mainstreet. Come to Burns, OR and see what I mean.
We used to live in Gaithersburg (suburb of DC, really) and on an evening trip we would see those things EVERYWHERE! I counted over 100 on an hour long drive.
I ran over a mostly dead one in my C4, and that was nerve racking. Got to smell the thing cooking for a week or so, every time the car warmed up.
Sure glad to get away from that area where ya can see 'em all the time, but ya can't put 'em on the table.
Glad to hear things aren't too awful.
Maybe they need to have the deer cross somewhere else?
The paint looks amazing, and in the cloudy light today it looked perfect, but I am going to have to take her back next week because the window is slightly misaligned. I could have left her over the weekend, but I would rather have her over the weekend, and bring her back for an hour or so to be adjusted. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, so I'll get to see the paint in direct sunlight, but I don't anticipate any problems, given their perfect track record on both my other Vettes.

I live in Hagerstown and can absolutely verify that the deer population continues to increase every year in western MD. The Whitetail Deer has adapted well to an environment created by man. Urban areas with limited forested areas coupled with an almost limitless supply of food makes an ideal habitat for deer. Driving in the fall at dusk is probably the most hazardous time but deer can now be seen around the clock in many areas. It is incredible the amount of damage that a single deer can inflict on an automobile especially if the car is moving at highway speed. Glad to hear you are OK and your car has been satisfactorily repaired.
