I have purchased sight unseen from MacMulkin. I have purchased 4 Vettes and 2 other vehicles from them. Great prices and excellent service during the sales process.
You can't ask for a more honest dealer, and NO doc fees.
Sight unseen from Vroom.com in Texas. No issues with the car; it was delivered to me as it appeared in the website ad. I'd buy from them again because of their customer service and follow up. I bought her last December-she had 6K on the clock. At 15K now and she runs great!
I've purchased a few cars without seeing them in person or driving them. I never had any issues, and any warranty work is done locally. Here's my MacMulkin purchase:
Not sure if this counts...but when I purchased my first Corvette, a C5 in 2001, I special ordered it and had never driven a Corvette or even sat in one in my life. Then ordered a C6 in 2006 without ever driving or sitting in a C6, then ordered my 2017 C7 without ever sitting in or driving one of those either. I like the element of surprise, and have yet to be disappointed!
If it was a dealer that I have dealt with and can trust, I would have no problem with it. Otherwise, I would want to meticulously go over it with a fine tooth comb before I'm going to make the official transaction.
On edit: I will admit that I am super picky when it comes to my car so I might be an extreme example.
It was a terrifyingly exciting week for me, but this past summer, I got the ok from my wife to pursue a Z06 C7r edition on Wednesday. The car was located about four hours away-two states away, so it wasn't practical to go look at it, and since it was a limited edition, I couldn't exactly go to a local dealer and even see one. I called my preferred local dealer who sold me my first corvette, and told him what I was looking at to see if he could get it for me and give me employee pricing in it. On Friday, I was going out of town for 4 days. He called me on Monday to tell me he was still working on it, and then on Tuesday morning, he called me(I was still out of town) to tell me that he could get me my car. On Wednesday I went in and signed the papers, and was given a temp tag, and a sealed envelope with all of the dealer to dealer paperwork(and a 6 figure check). On Friday, I drove the four hours and picked it up. I'm not sure which period was the longest, the 6 days from getting the okay from my wife to the dealer telling me I could get it, the 3 days from signing the papers to going to pick it up, the 4 hour drive to the dealership, or the 4 hour white-knuckled drive home from the dealership with all of the crazy drivers cutting in front of me throwing stones at my new baby. But I can tell you one thing for sure, I started to develop a slight grin on Monday when the dealer told me it was looking good, which turned into a full fledged grin on Tuesday when the deal was confirmed. That grin lasted till about two weeks ago when I washed her and put her away for the winter.
I bought a Certified used C7 from Mike Furman. Technically, I paid for it after I saw it, but all the discussion, how much to write the check for and so on and the commitment to buy was completed three days before I arrived at Criswell. Sale went very smooth.
I had purchased a two year old Highlander company car from a former employer site unseen, fully paid for, had title in hand, new NC plates in hand, but never saw the car. Turned out fine.
Bought mine from a dealer out of state about 270 miles from me. All negotiations done on the phone including trade. The new car manager is my cousin's nephew and knows how I maintain my cars. They delivered my new Z06 and brought my Grand Sport back to the dealership.
Got my 2016 with 2.5 k miles CPO warrenty I drove 420 miles one way...so yes warrenty is your friend. This is the first used vette that I ever purchased that was not new. To be honest I had to bite my tounge on alot of slight damage due to just bad car wash practices but I made all that go away with 2-4 hours of paint correction. Ther are some amazing buys out there
On a brand new car, the risk is minimal. Slightly more complicated with a pre owned vehicle, mainly because even CPOs can have some bodywork, I believe. I bought a very low mile pre-owned BMW form a high end, non-BMW dealer in Chicago, and the car turned out to be cosmetically not as advertised. It's been a good car, and for a DD I don't mind so much, but if this was a toy car, a vette or Porsche, I would have created a much bigger stink.
