Default Drove a new C7 home today

2017 Coupe, man trans, Z51, 2LT, Nav, glass roof, black flash mirrors, spoiler, Z51 rims, red calipers. Traded in my 2007 C6 man trans, that was my first Corvette. First American car I ever owned (and I'm 59, so I've owned a load of cars), best car I ever owned. I shopped and shopped for a used one with the right equipment and compared those up here in the northeast (I'm in Chester, NY, 50 miles NW of NYC) and the dealers have sort of started giving them away generally, so the new one made much more sense. GM website rendering of the car below, but you guys know the cars.

I had to drive it gingerly on the way home in the 20º tmps, those tires do NOT like cold pavement like that. You think you know these cars, you see them on the web and you read about them, but until you get the car, you're not quite prepared for how off the hinges the car is. It looks like a RACE car for crissake. An astonishing advance from my 2007 with its 'the 90s called and they want their Navigation unit back' interior. And I LOVED that car. But overall the most astonishingly rapid advance in automotive tech over a decade I have personally ever witnessed, and I'm a guy who has been getting 2-3 car magazines every month for 30++ years, used to be in the car biz (c. 1983-1991), etc. The pictures just don't capture the car's outrageous mojo.

Excited about the car. I like the Corvette camaraderie, even if there is a nerdy aspect to it. I mean Porsche owners would NEVER wave at one another. I like that we do. I'll post more soon.

Congrats, and welcome to the family.

I was also amazed at what a quantum leap the C7 was over the C6 gen, which was equally amazing when it was introduced. The incredible advances in technology in all areas never cease to amaze me.

The car is utterly off the hinges compared to the C6. The C6 is a gorgeous, tasteful car that looks like it belongs on a public road. This car in my garage is a little over the top. Like it should never be let off of the Nurburgrung or friggin Road Atlanta.

I like it. Glad I found one with the glass top, had that on the C6 and really liked it. I thought I wanted the chrome wheels, but these gigantic black wheels with the lacy spokes that expose those big red calipers are so badass looking.

The car's a problem, I hope I can stay out of prison driving this. That could be difficult.

I'll tell you what; you have a better chance with the cops driving a good old American car like a Corvette vs. some BMW, Porsche or (cringe) GTR. When I got that red C6 coupe two years ago, I figured, ok, it's Arrest Me Red, I'm going to get tickets. I got pulled over once in 20 months by a cop in my town, he comes back to me after running my plates etc. and says: 'You were going 52 in a 40 zone, but I'm letting you off with a warning today. A) We don't like to write up our own town residents (never stopped them from ticketing me before) and B) This is my favorite car. Have a nice day.'

The song does say Little RED Corvette. Why would anyone get a different color? Or an auto trans.? And yet red sticks aren't as common as I'd expect. Some of you have strange ideas.

I am automotively bipolar and bipartisan. The Corvette is a Republican, it pulls right even after a wheel alignment. The Prius pulls left, it's a Democrat (they all had Obama stickers for much of last decade, right?)

Default Nice

You are really going to like this Vette. The LT2 package with the Full Nav system is fantastic. Multiple views at multiple locations. I am still learning mine ( Picked up Nov 30th).
Enjoy.

Congrats...nice color...Torch Red has been my color for the last two Corvettes (C4 & C5), and I was sure I was going to get a Torch Red C7....till I saw Watkins Glen Gray...and I defected from the "All Corvettes Are Red" cult....

Now the worst part is having the car sit in the garage till Spring...I sometimes just sit in it and go "vroom-vroom", like a 5 year old....

My winter to-do list:
- CAGS bypass
- Check and top-off the rear diff fluid level (factory seems to sometimes underfill these!)
- Tops-Down Tech Window Valet
- Add-on the rear Bose subwoofer to my 1LT 9-speaker system
- Block-it noise insulation mat
- CarboTech low-dust brake pads
- GM mud flaps (I know...ugly but protective)
- Home-brew auto headlight disable
- Adjustable radiator fan controller
- Hidden radar detector (behind the grill)
