Perhaps they're thinking of it as a single-stage job when in reality it requires a basecoat followed by a tintcoat? I had similar issues when I had my S2000 painted... Brickyard Red Metallic base covered with a Romanesque Crimson tintcoat. It had the same affect as Longbeach in that it showed one color of red when it was cloudy, but sun brought out the metallic/candy look. You can't match it using a single stage process...
