get a FOB not detected car won't start.Replaced the FOB battery still doesn't help. can't unlock doors. Replaced Battery Cables and that worked for about a month. same thing happened again. Tried and tried to start car FOB not detected comes up. Went to get a jump box and tried again and it started without a jump. Didn't do anything different. Got the car home and everything works now. Don't want to get stranded again

Maybe I can add to this thread? My FOB is detected inside the car so that it starts. However, it isn't always detected to open the door from the outside. When I press the open door button, the doors open and then for a while, the FOB works as intended. The car is a 2014. I'm thinking I need to replace the FOB battery. Do I just split it open with a small screwdriver? I'm also worried the FOB won't work again after I replace the battery.

Any suggestions?

Thx

The OM shows complete procedure to change fob battery using the rounded end of the key to open case.

Make sure the fob is warm so as to not crack the plastic.

The OP's scenario sounds like a possible RF interference problem, or the car battery is starting to go south. Don't know if the OP put the fob in the slot on the steering column or not (and if so, did it work?).

What's an OP? Is that like Mayberry RFD? Must be an east coast thing. I'm gonna start that one here in the midwest, It's kinda funny.

Always take key out of pocket when this occurs. I know this sounds stupid but my cell phone interrupts my key fob from being detected ..not all the time but it happens more than I would have believed possible.

Obviously I'm not sure what your scenario is but for me...when my car doesn't detect the fob as shown on dash I just take my fob out of my pocket which usually has my phone in the same pocket...the car starts right up.

Hope this helps.

If your fob is not recognized, or the battery dies you can still start the car by putting the fob in the slot on the right side of the steering column.

I know it's a longshot but try replacing the fob battery again. I had this issue with my C6 and the new fob battery I replaced it with did the same thing. But I had gone the cheap route and bought the battery from a dollar store, and when I got a proper Energizer battery the problem was solved.

I just replaced batteries in both of my fobs. What a giant pain in the hind quarters. I wonder why GM can't design a fob with a permanent rechargeable battery. Merry Christmas!

The car is a 14, I'd replace it. Many corvette owners know that when you start having unusual electrical problems its almost always a battery issue. Make sure your battery cables are tight (which I think you said they were).

My 14 battery went bad at 2 years 2 months.

My wife's BMW fobs use rechargeable batteries that charge themselves everytime you put the fob in the slot above the start button. My only worry with that is that eventually it will stop holding a charge and I already know the replacement fob is over $300! And you can't just replace the internal battery all that easily because the fob is completely sealed, so you need to hack into it with a knife just to get at the battery, and once you've done that then you've ruined the fob.

Merry Christmas to you as well!

FWIW, Had problem of my FOB being interfered with my cell phone in my C6, there was a warning in that Owner's Manual. No problem with my C7 and don't believe there is a note to that effect in that Manual.

Recently had a problem with my main FOB that I had changed it's battery 1 1/2 years ago on my 3+ year old C7. At first it required hitting the open door button from time to time. Then one day I got a "FOB Not Detected" signal and had to put it in the column slot to start.

Took both FOB's apart and tested the batteries with a battery tester that puts a load on the battery to get an accurate reading. It has an analog scale reading Weak and Good. Both batteries read into the good area but just on the "G" in Good. Checked a new battery I had and it read to the 2nd "O" in Good. Put it in and all was fine. That was a month ago, all still fine.

Note, I also used a pencil eraser and cleaned the contacts when I put in the new battery-definitely worth doing.

PS:
Never stranded, can always use the removalble key to open the hatch, pull the cable on the left wheel well to open the door and start the car by putting the FOB in the column slot.

Well, there is a way to figure out the issue.

According to the manual, the answer is yes you can:

From pages 2-7, 2-8 of the 2015 owner's manual

Starting the Vehicle with a Low
Transmitter Battery
If the transmitter battery is weak or if
there is interference with the signal,
the DIC may display a NO REMOTE
DETECTED or NO REMOTE KEY
WAS DETECTED. PLACE KEY IN
TRANSMITTER POCKET, THEN
START YOUR VEHICLE. message
when you try to start the vehicle.
See Key and Lock Messages on
page 5-35.

To start the vehicle:

1. Place the transmitter in the
steering column transmitter
pocket with the chrome buttons
facing up and the base towards
the passenger side.

2. With the vehicle in P (Park),

N (Neutral) or, Neutral, press the
brake pedal and the ENGINE
START/STOP button.

Replace the transmitter battery
as soon as possible.

You can also put the fob in the slot w/o a battery, and it will work.
