Default Anyone logging C7's oil life and lifetime revs/engine hours?

Have any of you regularly monitored the following

- Oil Life (shown in percentage)
- Odometer (or travel distance after the last oil change)
- Lifetime Revs (10k rpm)
- Engine Hours (hours)

and made logs for the most of listed items on a regular basis?

I think the oil life indicator is designed to give you 0% after 1 year from the reset, but I'd like to find out about other factors. I read that the system is supposed to give you longer life if the car is driven in good condition (warm climate, mostly highway driving, mildly driven) and vice versa (shorter life for bad condition like cold climate, short trip, WOT). If there is enough log about those item, maybe we can figure it out GM's opinion (which programmed into OLM) about the oil change interval.

Good luck but I am sad to say it does not interest me at all. I just drive it and get the oil changed once a year or twice if the oil monitor gets around 20%..

That's a bit OCD - even for me.

The oil life system also monitors oil temp to know the number of cold starts. Frequent short trips without getting the oil hot will decrease the % of oil lfe remaining.

I believe the one year til 0% thing... because mine drops like a rock even when the car is sitting in a warm garage undriven. I'm sure it's probably dropping another % as I type this.

Any explanations for why "lifetime revs" is anything worth paying attention to?

In the OP if one is looking at the variables that determine the oil life monitor then tracking lifetime revs at different intervals would tell you if the car had been run easily or harder. (Higher or lower RPM's per mile driven)

OK, I get that, but why should I pay any attention to it? I can just depend upon the oil life monitor for that.

Life time Rev's is more for the guy that is buying your car; if driven more cross country, the mileage will be high with an average MPH around 35 to 40 MPH....if the mileage is lower but the Rev's high, then guess what....lots of extra high speed/Rev driving like tracking.

If I read correctly the OP was curious about the content and weighting of the various inputs of the oil life monitor. The lifetime engine revs is probably one of those variables. Like most here I don't care about dissecting GM's algorithm, I just use it. Beautiful Christmas day here in the Pacific Northwest.

Yes! Mobil 1 is supposed to last much longer than the OLM tells you. Last year I had my last free oil change a month before going to the Bash...only drove car a few hundred miles before heading out and the OLM had me down to 88% Then drove down, drove around and back, putting @2600 miles on her and the OLM was at 84%

I see that in the '10 coupe.

It looks fine.

I've been resetting my OLM between oil changes. I go by mileage or at least once a year.
I'm not getting 1,000 miles out of the OLM, in 4 months.

It is a factor in airplane engines and probably boats where your often at sustained high power levels and don't have many starts and stops.

Frequency of starts and getting oil hot once started to burn off blow-by etc more important in a car, IMO.

Not crazy at all! My C6 and prior Vettes said change after OLM indicates OR after 1 year, which ever occurs first! The C7 just finally integrates time into the OLM algorithm.

I drive my ProStreet Rod mostly to car shows. Still change oil once a year! I also avoid starting it unless I can drive ~20/30 miles to get the oil hot before shutting it off.

Just normal heating and cooling will condense moisture in the crackcase!
