The Scosche magnetic mount is ideal.

Kinda expensive for what it is, but they are solid and totally worth it. Make sure you buy the base as well as the actual dock for your phone. Its a two piece system.
Buddy has this mount for his GPS. Works great. Since I plan on getting a 2LT GS to replace my 3LT 2014 I will get this mount to hold my Garmin. Don't need GPS that often and can leave the small mount in place. Like the way it mounts!

I keep my cell phone off when driving the Vette! Did not even connect Blue Tooth in the 3+ years I've had my C7 as I don't want the distraction! Drove ~50 years without anyone contacting me and whatever it is it can wait! Have not had an accident with another car since I started driving! Attribute that to luck (looking for wood) and looking forward and in all my mirrors all the time!

Too many folks using cell phones to communicate (vs as a GPS) while driving and like Pavlov's dogs having a "conditioned response" to a cell phone beep, they MUST at least look to see who sent the useless message. Takes all my attention to avoid them!

Wish I had a NASCAR spotter who could say, "Fool coming on left looking at cell phone!"

Is the magnet strong enough if you have a phone case?

Although I will use this mount for my GPS just checked for my phone. As with the GPS it grips the phone mechanically and doesn't use a magnet! Would not use a magnet, suggest you click on the link. There are two parts. One that clips onto the Vette (have to put in make model etc) and another that fits that part that hods whatever (have to put in the specific phone info!) well engineered. Put in your phone and you'll see the clips.

Mine works great. Scosche gives you a thin metal piece to slip in your case. When I got my iPhone 7, I got this case which has an area on the back integrated into it for a magnetic mount so you don't have to add anything:

There is no problem using a magnetic mount on any smart phone, whether with a case or without. I'll never again use any device holder with a clip, which is a PIA compared to simply holding a phone up to the mag mount.

Doesn't Bluetooth eliminate the need to keep your phone on a clip? Mine is in my pocket when I talk.

[QUOTE=Foosh;1593744076]Speaking of magnetic mounts, the Schosche vent clip mount is perfect. It's perfectly in the line of sight, you just hold your phone up next to it, and it grabs it. No fumbling around with clips, and removable in a second. Available on Amazon . . .

With a long charging cord, it runs from the USB port in the console tucked under and straight up to the phone, and is essentially invisible.

Looks a lot like mine. I have one in each of our cars.

Yep, there's also another company called iMagnet which produces them. They all work equally well.

Although the Moderators prefer not to repeat a post when responding, your question was right below my post! Sorry I responded.

Do you have pictures showing how you ran the cable from the armrest console all the way to the vent? They'd be really useful for me to try the same

That's what I do in my DD. Just press the button on the steering wheel and hands free talking is in order.
