screw it up
2ys of free oil changes are over
I have the 2014 Z51 C7 and am ready to do the oil change
Went to a couple of the local stores to get the PF64 filter, alas they did not have but offered a PF48 and one place the PF48E.
the PF48e supposedly has a by pass to make sure there is no dry starts.
Any advantage to using the PF48E of stick with the PF 64
1. Be glad you're done with the dealer for this maintenance. No better way to "connect" with your car than by doing routine maintenance - PLUS - you'll save money overall and know it's done correctly.
2. IF you want to use the correct AC Delco filter they are readily available online. eBay is your friend - and free shipping to your front door.

I'm thinking the PF64 is a bit longer then the 48
Any info will be appreciated
Probably lots of good filters but since I do all my own oil and filter changes (and have from the first-Free was not worth it to me) I buy and document with receipts the GM recommendation. I order on Amazon, since as you say no local source at a reasonable price.
I found my PF64 at Walmart when buying the oil. Walmart has a very good price for the 5 quart container of Mobil1. They beat the autoparts stores hands down on the price. Doing an oil change on a dry sump car can cost you over $100 if you purchase the oil at the autoparts stores ($9.99/quart). I can do it with two 5 quart containers from Walmart for a little over $60.
I wouldn't use the Pf48 filters on the LT engines. They are for the LS engines. If GM had wanted people to use the PF48 filters then they would have recommended them.

The difference between the two is due to where GM chose to place the bypasses in the two different engines. The LS bypass is in the engine, the LT1 bypass is in the filter, also the LS filter has SAE threads, while the LT1 filter has metric threads, all other specs are the same.

3. Happy New Year.
I bought 3 PF64 on EBAY for $7.00 each.

Has anyone tried doing a topside oil change on one of these cars - extracting the oil through the dipstick tube with a vacuum fluid evacuator, to eliminate the need to jack the car and go underneath to remove the drain plug?

Yes I did! I put the car on a rotisserie and gravity bled the oil out of the dipstick tube. Only took about 9 hours to drain...
Every Mercedes for example is spec'ed for topside change. I was wondering if something about this engine prevents it, or if just no one here ever tried it.
