One of the best things you can do is get rid of noise that isn't coming from the audio system, and by that I mean road noise and vibrations. You can do varying degrees of difficulty, from changing to quieter tires, throwing down an extra mat in the trunk area, or a full blown interior disassemble with three stage deadening and absorption. I would recommend you start with one of those many options before you do anything to the speakers at all as you will NEVER get the full benefits of a sound system with all the extra noise generated in/by these cars.
I know what you mean . . . my only suggestion is to play around with all the settings to find the best fit. There are more settings than I am used to and the fade controls make a lot of difference.
On the Vert there is one more unusual thing that a few of us have noticed--when the top is down the sound has a different signature than when up. You can hear it change at the exact moment the top is secure when closing. Like it better in the "top-down mode," whatever that is . . .

All good suggestions. Be that as it may, you will still end up with clearer mediocre sound. Amplifier? Speakers? Any audio suggestions?
I've been watching the forum since I got my car over a year ago and I really haven't seen a simple solution. There are posts about full blown swaps and a few about adding subs, but from what I've gathered, it's not the easiest system to add or swap components to. JL makes a couple of sub enclosures for it, but otherwise it's all been custom stuff. I kinda gave up, mine has broken in to the point where it's adequate enough to not want to go through the expense of changing it with a custom solution.
If you find something, I'd love to see it, or maybe someone will chime in!
First of all, theres an Audio/Electronics subforum. I'd post there too as there are some good sound experts that don't exactly keep tabs on each Gens' section. However, here are some quick results that I found as far as upgrades go.
Check out this thread for a writeup of a full swap. Downside, no pics
No, he's not a plastic surgeon, his name references the standard size of a radio headunit, Single Din and in this case, Double Din. He's probably responsible for more stereo swaps in Corvettes than anyone else, primarily C5s and C6s, but thats besides the point.
