Default Cubic inches

When stopping for gas I get a lot of guys ask what the cubic inches are for the motor in the corvette. I tried looking and found 2 answers one was 349 cubic in and the other was 376 or 379 I don't remember. also one was for a 2016 base and the other was for a 2017 base model.

6.2L = 378.347 cu in(it's common in the auto industry to round off engine displacement to one decimal point, using metric)

The LT1 measures 4.065" bore X 3.622" stroke x 8 cylinders =6.162 liters =376.054 cu in.

IIRC, you multiply the liters by 61 to get the cubic inches. For instance, a 7-liter engine x 61 = 427 cubic inches......a 6.6 liter engine is 402, etc., etc.

If you want the actual displacement in cu in you calculate it based on the bore and stroke and the number of cylinders.

For example the old 5.7L GM engine used through 1996 was actually 350 cu in. The 1997 GM LS1 5.7L engine is actually 346 cu in

Just multiplying 5.7L by 61 = 348 cu in, of which neither of the two examples I show were(346 cu in and 350 cu in).

I know that the "x61" method is approximate, but it's pretty good in a pinch. I still think of the 5.3L as a 327, the 5.8L as a 351, etc.....even though that might be slightly off.

Ford had the "5.0" (302) Mustang for years, but it was actually closer to being a 4.9L. Not only does 5.0 sound bigger & better than 4.9, but Ford also had a 300-inch L6 engine used in their trucks that was known as the 4.9L.

Being well over 40, most of us identify with cubic inches, while younger folks think in terms of liters.

The GM powertrain site: http://www.gmpowertrain.com/VehicleE...nProducts.aspx is an excellent info resource. The 6.2L/376 CID V8 is actually 6.162 liters according to GM
