Default GS problem

My gs with 1200 miles at dealer. Makes a very loud thumping sound when driving. Feels like something is ready to fall off. Happens mostly backing up or making a uturn. Possibly posi or rear. All the time when car is first used backing out of garage, Any ideas/

^^^ Where does it sound like it is coming from, Front, Back, Transmission, Wheels? Is it only when turning?

If I'm understanding your car's symptoms correctly. there's nothing wrong with your car. From page 281 of your owner's manual:

Tire Chatter/Hop
When driving at slow speeds and in

very tight turns, the vehicle may

have tire chatter/hop. This is normal

and the vehicle does not require

service.

Yup, there is nothing wrong with the car.

Why don't people read the Owner's Manual?

OP clearly has no idea about corvettes and did not read the manual. So lets make it clear for him. There is nothing wrong with your car. When its cold out (like it is now and most winters) and you have ultra wide tires on any car (like corvettes have) and you are moving slowly forward OR reverse you will experience tire skip or whatever you want to call it. ITS NORMAL!

Sorry to the rest of you, I get irritated seeing the same question asked or mentioned over and over and over again. I'm done now, lol.

Search for Ackermann Effect to learn why the car does this. Here's a link to get you started. Don't worry about asking questions, that's what the forum is for.

My GS even had a hang tag in the car explaining this issue and informing you that is in fact normal.

Rough crowd tonight.

To the OP: I'm surprised the service writer at the dealership didn't educate you and send you on your way. Wait, I take it back - not surprised at all, since most service writers know ****-all about Corvettes.

My salesman, the service manager and the guy detailing the car when I was taking the keys all told me about the tires.

The way I read the OP's description it doesn't sound like normal tire chatter. Especially if it happens backing up in a straight line.
