I just got my first ever corvette on December 21 here in FL. Its a 2016. It didnt have the update that included aa. I searched and found that gm did an update and you just had to go to dealer for 1 hr service visit and it would be there. I did that and it didn't work. Dealer claimed issue was with my phone. I tried diff phone and issue persisted. I looked at main settings and aa was not there but on the videos I watched I could see this setting. I went to dealer to see a 2017 and aa was in settings. I went back to service and claimed an update came out today to fix this and did the update while I waited. It worked. I love it. I dont push the steering wheel button i just hollar out "ok google" and you can command it that way and ask it things like send melissa a message or whats on my calendar for the day or how much does a blue whale wieght? Its very smart.
There are 2 updates my 2016 needed, a new version of the radio OS, and then the AA interface. Sounds like they didn't install the second the first time.
When I first tried AA with my new phone it was inconsistent. I swapped out the USB C cable for a different one and it is great. So check your cables if you are having issues.
Good advice in above posts. I'll add that we have AA in two cars and really like it. Google maps is much better than factory nav, and easier to use as you can use it on the fly and just 'tell google' to find the location and it finds it in nano seconds and your off. With factory nav you often have to find the address and try to get the voice recognition to enter it correctly - or end up pulling over and entering the address manually. Never again with AA and google. And have you ever tried to get the factory nav to recognize a POI? Almost never worked for us, and with AA/google maps it's almost 100% and on the fly too. Google voice recognition is waaaay better than the factory voice rec.
You have to have your phone 'plugged in' to run AA and in doing so you'll find that Pandora sounds way better than streaming thru bluetooth, and much better than XM.
A little hint: when you have AA running, you can push the steering wheel 'talk button' and hold it down for a second or so, and you'll get google instead of the factory voice recognition and the stuff that comes with the factory op system. Makes it much easier to use. If you want to use the factory voice rec and ops stuff you simply press the 'talk button' and release it right away.
You don't even have to do that. I just say "OK Google" and it answers.

What was your first indication that it failed?

What is the issue that persisted?

Which settings where?

Sounds like they didn't apply the correct update in the first place.

It's very smart because it's Google. And it'll only get better. I've noticed changes already. For example, since I set my home and work locations in Google Maps when I leave in the morning it used to offer a "Work" card which you could tap to start driving to work. Now it seems to just pre-program that in the morning and speaks "On your way to work, traffic is light...".
BTW, you really should sharpen your problem description skills. Saying "that didn't work" without describing what didn't work and how it failed is never a good description. When you write a description of a problem that you have proofread it from the perspective of somebody who knows absolutely nothing about your problem. If "he's" confused then your audience of potential problem solvers will likewise be confused.
NOTE: For early model-year 2016s, an update is needed to get Android Auto to work - reference Service Bulletin # 16-NA-042. I've tried to attach it to this post.
Do you have to have the coupon described in the service bulletin? I just bought my 2016 two weeks ago with only 560 miles on it and it has not been updated.

I really don't think so though I am the original owner of my 2016. Coupon or not you're owed that functionality in my mind.

I took my 2016 to the dealer this week, and was told there was a $40 charge for the Android Auto upgrade.
The dealer should not be charging for this service! I had mine done last week and it cost me nothing. Somewhere in this post someone posted a link for the service bulletin. GM is paying for this service and they should be treating it like a warranty claim.
Without being able to access WAZE on car play, if you plug in the USB, it interfers with WAZE. I use a backup power pack for my phone power, not the car USB. Car play should show all of your screen not just a few limited apps. Pretty much useless to me. I have a Rand McNally paper map of all things.
Because it was intended (advertised?) functionality that was delayed. IOW it was SUPPOSED to be on 2016's and was just late. Therefore it's not an upgrade. It's not your fault it was late. In fact it was precisely why I waited to get the 2016 instead of pulling the trigger on the 2015. IOW it was a promise to the potential customer. I'm glad I waited because I love the front cameras too and I'm glad I have the pull down hatch, etc.
Oh I'll throw in a tip: When enroute with AA, tapping and holding the green "button" just to the left of the speaker icon will cause AA to announce the next turn.
