I've owned at least 40 cars over 40 years (I'm 59, started driving @ 17 and got my first car courtesy of my late Dad @ 19), worked in the car biz 25 years ago, I've driven a lot of new cars, etc. No expert but arguably more experienced driving a variety of high quality cars (95% imports) than most drivers, even some of the drivers here. But I have never been so completely astonished @ a car re-design as I find myself after a month in this C7 Z51 coupe. I drove it another 100 miles today, to and from Manhattan, all kinds of roads local and highway, @ speeds that briefly blipped up to 110 mph (which is amazingly effortless in this car). Happily that was all possible due to very light traffic on dry roads with above normal temps here (45ºF+ for the most part). I do pick my spots, trust me, no accidents in over 30 years.

I mean, I'm just blown away by this car in every way. Most of all it's just SO much more fun to drive - and EASIER to drive (particularly fast or in high performance handling situations) than the C6. It's not old hat to me yet, I keep discovering new cool aspects to the car's design and performance every day. I have never experienced such a successful makeover of a car model, and I've seen a few major re-designs, participating in manufacturer seminars and track days on a couple back in the late 80s.

Did many of you have that kind of reaction to the car? Trying to to NOT get too carried away by my new dream car and all that, but I can't ever recall having this response to a car whether I owned it or not. The only re-designs I recall that strike me as close to this significant were the 1988 Jaguar XJ-6 that replaced the old 1987 model, and the 1986 Mercedes 300 series sedan that replaced the old 1985 300 (the 86 300 series introduced such innovations as a multi-link rear suspension). But those weren't nearly as satisfying in my view.

It really is an amazing home run of a car transformation.

Oh yeah, feel free to tell me to calm down, STFU, use the search function, not get carried away, etc. That would be fine, really. I take everything on social media with a grain of salt, particularly my own Internet forum rants and ramblings, I've been blathering on these silly boards since they were on Compuserve in the pre-www primordial ooze (c. 1993 ish)

Not to worry, you're fine my friend. I will say this is the first Corvette I have owned that I hate to see parked. I really enjoy driving mine.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. I love my C7 and marvel every time I drive it.

There's a long, sweeping curve of a freeway on-ramp that, every time I take it, there's usually a slow-moving car or truck right in front of me. Yesterday it was just me and the curve and I took it faster than ever before. When I looked at the G-meter, it was .72 and I was wasn't even pushing it that hard. It was literally like it was on rails.

Call me a fanboy, I don't care. As far as I'm concerned, the 7th generation Corvette is the best in it's class of all mass-produced cars and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to own one.

Ok, thanks boys, so I know I'm not crazy, or at least if I am, there are others with the same delusions.

But seriously, why does GM make them in colors other than red?

Prince's instructions seem rather clear on this point.

As a former owner of 2 red Vettes, I understand what you are saying here.

However...

Blue is the new 'fastest' color. It's the coolest color too. Apparently, you didn't get the memo yet.

The judges grudgingly allow this appeal, it's in the same color family.

To be fair, it's only like 880 miles.

If GM markets products like this across their line to any degree, their future is bright. The car is so impressive.

^^^ The judges will allow the green car in the interests of ying/yang balance, and because if we didn't GM would have never been able to sell them to anybody.

But I KID my C7 pals. I really like that green, and I think they only made it one year, right? I think it works on the C7.

My first vette. I was expecting the power and handling... and she lived up to that. I'm blown away by the overall comfort as a DD. I thought this car might be a fling but I might propose.

Don't worry. 7,650 miles in 6 months on mine and I still have the first 500 mile grin on my face.

Well the C6 also blew me away, that was my very first Corvette.

Can anyone cite a car re-design or makeover that comes close to the successful transformation that the C6-C7 change represents? Because quite honestly, I can't think of one, and I have been a close follower of car development over the past 40 years. Not because it's my business, it just fascinates me, always has. I read a lot of car magazines (I subscribe to R&T, C&D, Motor Trend, and at times I've gotten Automobile and AutoWeek) just for relaxation. And I have been guilty of getting a new car every 3-5 years for a long time. We're a two car family, so over 25 years of marriage (this June) that was a bunch of cars.

No, I don't know why Mrs. Pcad stayed with me, I can't even figure out why she married me in 1992.
