Intermittent seat memory issue
It has been posted in other threads that the E brake is not required on automatics. It appears as if it is not even required on all manuals. As I stated earlier, it appears as if there are two software versions for manuals. One requires the E brake, the other does not.
It has been my experience the seat sensor is the culprit for a vast number of seat memory intermittent issues.

To be clear: the ebrake is not required at all, unless you have an M7 with a certain version of the software. Of course, we still haven't really verified that the different software works differently. BTW do you have the version number of those two versions of software as well as an indication of which version works and which doesn't? It'd be interesting.
And we're also not sure if it doesn't work the same on the automatics. How many versions of software are available for the automatics? Same two? Which versions have been tested.

No idea on the software versions. There was someone about a year ago who said their M7 did not require being set. We both tested and in my car the E brake absolutely had to be set. In his it did not. I'm not saying there isn't a version for the automatic which requires the E brake but I have never seen it reported here.

My wife and I are having this issue too, worked great in or 2009. We bought a 2017 Grand Sport 2 months ago and it has never worked correctly. Our Dealer here in San Antonio told us yesterday that there is a glitch in the Bulkhead Sensor. They stated that after you save your settings if you adjust the seat all the way back the Bulkhead Sensor erases all of your settings. This make sense with what has been happening to us. I am 6'1" my wife is 5'10" so we tend to move it back to exit the car.
Anyone heard this? This system was so easy in our 2007,2008, and 2009.!!!!!

It works 100% when I apply the parking brake.
I tried everything; read the manual, ginger video, changed fobs, reset fobs, EVERYTHING and the only way the seat sets to the #1 memory is using the PB 100% of the time.

Yes, make sure ebrake is applied before you shut off. This tip was added to 2018 owners manual but works same for 2017s.
and also make sure your exit setting is not all the way back thereby interfering with sensors.
