Default Tow hook receiver?

I've looked everywhere and can't seem to figure this out. I have a 2016 Base Stingray 1LT (non-Z51) with 8-speed automatic, magnetic selective ride control and 19" Front & 20" Rear Z51 tire/wheel package. Do I or do I not have a receiver (front or back) into which I could screw a tow hook to have my car towed? Any help answering this questions is greatly appreciated!!

No, I do not think you do. I looked into this, and to add the receivers you need to remover the bumpers! So I doubt I will be adding this. I was surprised it was missing too.

Is there a concise statement anywhere as to proper tow line hookup for our C7s that lack a tow hook receiver? I would print it out and keep it in the car in the event it ever needs to be towed.

And before anybody says RTFM, the manual ("use the proper hooks in the correct locations on the front and rear sub-frames") is particularly unhelpful in this regard.

The easiest way would be to go look; pop the square cover on the driver side rear cover....

Use a flashlight to look just inside of the cover to see it you have a 3/4x10 threaded hole...if you do, your good.

The front one is inside the grille on the passenger side; you will need a light for this one for sure because it sets back inside about 4".

Tow hook receivers ONLY on Z51's, Z06's and Grand Sports. And all exports to Europe. Base Stingrays have the black square pop-out thingy on the rear bumper, and the removable grill piece in front, but no receiver behind them. Z51's did not get the receiver until production after December of 2014.

If you have the receiver (Z51's/Z06/GS), you must purchase the hook from GM. Doesn't come with the car. Take a look at the foam cover over your battery. Place for the hook, but no hook.

This recently came up in our club, so I've become quite the expert

Here you go. If I can do it, you can do it. The kit comes with front and rear. I just did the front. I might do the rear too, but not sure if that's really necessary. Might take the job on still. Something to do during the winter. It takes some hacksawing and rivet grinding of the front impact bar endcap, and removing the entire front facia, but I did it myself without a helper as recommended. Hardest part was locating the tabs that disconnect the front facia, but I finally found them and released them with a flat tip.
I have an early 2015, and was under the impression that the late 2015s and after had the female threads in place. I have a Z-51 that was picked up in Oct 2014. So your non Z-51 will probably utilize the same procedure.

The thread is not 3/4-10. It is M20-2.5

You are Correct, the thread is Metric BUT in a pinch a 3/4-10 WITH a Jam Nut will work fine.....the two are very close, kinda link using a 14MM wrench on a 9/16" bolt

FYI FOR Z51 GUYS WITH Z06 GRILLE SWAPS The most upper cross piece must be bent down to thread in the tow hook.....it works, but your going to leave a mark on the plastic grille; ask me how I know. I would recommend using a little Blue Tape on the cross piece.

It's also easier to pop the grill cover on teh FRONT not the rear to check for the receiver in case you want to confirm 100%.

This is correct
Incorrect statement, my 2014 Z51 was produced 3-4-2014 and I took delivery 3-28-2014. Just popped off the cover on my rear bumper and there is no receiver.

I'm not sure what you are saying. Your dates are not making sense. From observed data on on this forum, the Z51 added the tow hook receivers during the 2015 MY on about the 12-1-14 production date.

Default Tow hook receivers

Sorry for coming into this thread so late, but I just happened across it.

As others have mentioned, the base Stingray does not have receivers. I had a 2014 Stingray Z51 and it had no receivers either. t'm not absolutely certain but I think that was the same for 2015. I know 2016 forward Z51s have them.

But there is good news for those without receivers. One of the Forum vendors, ZL1addons, has aftermarket receivers and tow hooks available for purchase. The quality of their products are exceptional and they have great instructions. These receivers put the hook in the same location(s) as the factory receivers.

This. Unless you are using the tow hook as intended, a way of quickly pulling the vehicle off a busy race track, you want to use a proper tow harness.

Wow, I didn’t know that I had a receiver on my 2017 GS. I had a 2014 Z51 that didn’t have one so I figured that they were only installed on foreign deliveries. So, now that I know I have a receiver, I looked for an OEM hook, one that would fit in the foam insert on the battery. WHY on earth would a simple screw in “eye bolt” type hook cost nearly $100.00? That’s insane! I wonder if a good hardware store would have a long eye bolt that would fit?

Exactly. Base doesn't have it because it is not meant to be tracked.
