Default Dead heat with an F-Type R

Was driving back to San Diego from Palm Springs this morning. I (and my wife) came across an F-Type R, which gave me a nice blip when we were side by side in traffic. Later, there were two cars in front of us, each of which turned off the road simultaneously (one right and one left), leaving only open, straight road ahead. It was like the parting of the Red Sea. It was too perfect.

Without going into detail (and upset forum rules and/or members), suffice it to say that the Jag did not pull on me. Not one bit. My lowly z51 stingray done good.

Sounds right from a roll. Can't take advantage of AWD and weighs more.

Does sound about right if you do the power to weight numbers on a roll basis.

Yep, he has 90 more HP, but is about 500 lbs. heavier than you. Torque-wise you're about equal. I'm surprised you couldn't pull him.

Sincerely,

Former F-Type owner

But the jag is boosted power, instant torque. Compare NA hp and torque to NA hp and torque. If all is equal a s/charged or turbo/charged car usually will always trap and MPH better than a NA car of equal power and weight ratio's.

I agree but 500 good lbs then also if the jag had one in the pass/seat woman will be diff but a guy you will be looking at a good 675 diff's. Plus if the vette got a little more first hit from the roll. If all of the above the vette should have got him per say until about 120 mph then a diff store. At that time the jag should store coming on strong. Robert

Just saying HERE IF ALL OF ABOVE... I know here to the OP you had to have a smell on your face good run in the car.Robert

Equal horsepower NA is always quicker everything being the same. If you are talking out of the power band performance then boost is good. If you are in proper gear the NA wins. Nothing comes on quicker than NA.

If you're talking single turbo, maybe, but a supercharger comes on line in a linear fashion equal to NA. In this case the NA car was 90HP down, but 500 lbs. lighter. Power-to-weight ratio was essentially the same.

15's aren't AWD.

And is yours an auto?

The F-Type R didn't come out until 2015, and in that year only it was RWD. From 16 on, the R is only available in AWD in the U.S.

You should know.

I stand corrected, 15's didn't come in AWD.

Of course, we don't know what year the R was, so you did make a good point. It could have been a '15 RWD, and this was from a roll. The RWD R is about 100 lbs. lighter.

Reminds me of the Jan & Dean song.

I was cruisin' in my Stingray late one night,
When an XK-E pulled up on the right.
He rolled down the window of his shiny new Jag,
And challenged me then and there to a drag.

I said "You're on buddy, my mill's runnin' fine,
Let's pop off the line now, at Sunset and Vine.
But I'll pull you one better if you've got the nerve,
Let's race all the way...to Dead Man's Curve."

Dead Man's Curve (that's no place to play)
Dead Man's Curve (you must keep away)
Dead Man's Curve (I can hear 'em say)
Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve

The street was deserted late Friday night,
We were buggin' each other while we sat at the light.
We both popped the clutch when the light turned green.
You should'a heard the whine from my screamin' machine.

I flew past LaBrea, Schwabs, and Crescent Heights,
And all the Jag could see were my six tailights.
He passed me at Doheny then I started to swerve.
But I pulled her out and there we were at,

Dead Man's Curve (that's no place to play)
Dead Man's Curve...

Well the last thing I remember Doc I started to swerve,
And then I saw the Jag slide into the curve.
I know I'll never forget that horrible sight,
I guess I found out for myself that everyone was right.

Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve
Dead Man's Curve (that's no place to play)
Dead Man's Curve (you must keep away)
Dead Man's Curve (I can hear 'em say)
Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve

Not a fan of street racing, but hard to argue about the C7 capabilities.
