Question: I haven't checked into the details, I bought a GS in Dec. and I think the free service is for 6 months, is there a free basic service for 5 hrs as mentioned in this post and if so what does it cover. I thought after the free 6 months trial it all went away unless you renewed it. Thanks
The Crash Response is worth every penny as far as I am concerned. If you are unconscious you can rest assured that help is on the way...AND...that could save your life. You never know when a accident can happen and for what that particular Onstar feature costs....it is worth it because if you really needed it...you would pay ANY AMOUNT.

The automatic crash response is a great feature of OnStar, but I wish it did not cost so much each month. I have chosen to not renew the trial periods in our daily drivers but for others it may be a valuable service to have. Everyone's situation can be different.
I keep the cheapest, basic plan for one reason and one reason only, which is the auto collision report upon airbag deployment. Trauma surgeons repeatedly talk about the importance of the "golden hour," meaning one's chances of survival or complete recovery after a traumatic injury increase the sooner one receives medical attention.
