Default Faster shifts

I generally use D for automatic shifting with my 2016 A8 for the convenience. Another factor is that the automatic shifts seem world's faster than the paddles. Is this other folks experience? Can the paddle shifts be make faster via computer adjustment at the dealer's?

Are you talking about the time between when you hit the upshift paddle and when it actually shifts? If you are, mine too shifts slow when I'm just putting around, but when I have my foot in it and it's revving 6K rpms, it shifts much quicker. Are you wanting it to speed shift low in the rpm range?

Yes. I'd like a faster shift across the RPM spectrum. I can't remember trying it a 6K to see if it will be faster but I'm leaving the house soon and will give it a try.

In my C6, I could not make redline paddle shifts. It was so slow that it would bounce off the rev limiter by the time the shift request went through. I had to hit the paddle at the YELLOW line. Or not bother and leave it in SPORT mode on the tranny. The paddles were strictly for fun, and fun they were.

REmember, it is not a mechanical connecttion or even a direct electrical connection, you are making a request to the computer that controls the tranny, and then the computer decides. I'm surprised that this is still a problem in the A8. GLad i went for the M7, that is a direct mechanical request !

Someone on the forum mentioned the paddle shifting is quicker at higher rpms. I've tried it a few time and it works.

For anyone that has read ANYTHING about the design of this transmission it has been clearly stated that the the higher the power being transmitted is the faster the transmission shifts. Is that so hard to understand?

I had to go out so I gave the paddles a try for the first time in a long time. I'm not sure what has changed but it now seems faster than it used to and definitely faster after you get the RPMs up however, overall, at least in a full-on, drag race situation, I'd use the auto.

Yep, get on the throttle and the tranny goes into high performance shift mode. The DIC will tell you this as well.

It's simply the way it's programmed for general all around driving.
In auto or paddle mode the shifts are dependent on throttle input.
Helps too around town with light throttle in paddle mode not to let off the throttle when shifting.
The A8 to me can be a little finicky at slower speeds / RPMs some times.
But IMO it's a lot better than the A6 was in my 2009.
If I wanted the A8 to do more than it does I get a Tune
